No one seems to have mentioned that the bigger the capacity and HP, the stronger the drivetrain components required to cope with it. The stronger they are, the more likely they will be a lot heavier too. Hence I think ALLMTR should focus on the weight side (ie removing it) and getting an ~2L engine that makes reliable, but less hp, than some >1000hp V8 monster.

i think the first step here would be to move to the US because their dynos read 10% better than they do here, just makes the job that little bit easier.

Could you imagine how difficult to drive a V8 supercar would be with 1300hp at the treads, and you are asking to put that sort of output through street rubber??? Would an engineer be willing sign off on such a creation??
An engineer doesn't know how much power the car is going to make. For example, a procharged small block into a hilux could (theoretically) go 1hp/kg and I wouldn't think that an engineer would have a problem signing off on it....

The other problem with the drivetrain to handle huge horsepower is that it "absorbs" power. Nothing drains power like a 9 inch...

Their dyno's might be different but no matter what weight you did it at you'd be looking at +170mph quarters!!!!!!!!!! (according to Moroso with 200lb driver)

shit tin the VW idea unless you're prepared to use a Hewland transaxle ($30k). The VW 2.0L kombi one will turn to shrapnel at 300hp, and the renault and audi ones will shrapnel at 600hp if not before.

Shame, because you can reduce the wheelie problem by mid mounting it, and you can get brand new beach buggy bodies (LWB - no cutting the VW floorpan which means RTA doesn't chuck a spack).

I'd look at a 4 cyl LC/LJ/TA torana and go the hilux motor same as the dudes that transplanted one into a 180SX did. 4 cyl torrie was less than 800kg and the 'lux motor with some effort will do it.

all diffs suck power, but I would imagine the higher the ratio the more power they would absorb. Prob better with a revvy motor and a low diff than having a diff at 2:1

procharged small block making 1400 rwhp (which it would be close to by the time you get the engine in..)

Alloy small block/glide/D44 in a Hilux cab/chassis with a few lightening tricks I've picked up = 1100kg......but that aint what I'm building

What does a Viper weigh? I've got a video somewhere of a twin turbo V10 producing 2000hp. Street car too.
