Libs to make sense of speed in Victoria

    From another site ->
    -----------------------
    Good News from Liberal

    ■ A 10 per cent speed zone tolerance would be reintroduced, replacing the 3 km/h tolerance enforced by Labor. This means that in a 100 km/h zone, motorists would not be fined until they were recorded travelling over 110 km/h, rather than 103 km/h under the present regime.
    ■ The speed camera system would no longer be "sneaky" — police cars with mobile cameras would be clearly visible, and the location of fixed speed cameras would be advertised.

    ■ Bonus payments to speed camera operators who book large numbers of drivers would be abolished.

Hate the stupid 3km/h tolrence, going down a hill or speed on the accelrator abit and you are already over the limit. What more that speed camera and our speedometers are not always 100% perfect showing the speed.
They will get my vote for sure.

I actually dont mind the current system if more of the $ was put to road safety and other road projects. This is mainly because I've never copped a fine.

      We'll see what happens.
Unfortunately the Libs are down in the poles atm.

another case of shuffling deckchairs without fixing the wobbly deck they are sitting on.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

I think it would be a nice change to align the ADR referring to Speedo accuracy and the tolerance of speed cameras down here in the Police state.

          Have fun

Hmm, have we come back to square one again? I don't know, it seems like there are some elements of the twilight Cain/Kirner days...
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, and from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip-malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moments lost in time; gone like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die.

Not that I agree with the methods of speed detection and their procedures in all cases (eg 3kmh rule etc) but the above to me is a bit of cheap vote buying and as Secoh said does nothing to actually fix the problem.

I think it's good to see this idea on the table at least. How long since anything _less_ restrictive on the roads was suggested by anyone in pollie land?

I couldn't believe how slowly everyone drives last couple of times I was down there.

No. I'm saying that at least it may represent a change in the attitude that would eventually have us topping out at 10 km/h.

I think the first priority should be for them to put their precious revenue into proper driver training. I can't believe you can get a license without demonstrating an emergency stop.

I live in Melbourne and I've never had a speeding ticket. I don't know how some other people manage to get booked so frequently.

To get a ticket in Victoria, you need to be detected at at least 7km/h over the limit. Then, when taking into account the speedo inaccuracy, you'd have to have about 72km/h showing on the speedo before you get booked in a 60km/h zone.

                          hypothetical:

I'm in a 110 zone..My speedo reads 10% under (within ADRs*), therefore at an indicated 110, I'm really doing 121ish. I let my speed drift up by an indicated 6 or 7 km/h because I'm actually watching the road instead of the speed (shock horror), so now I'm doing about 127 or 128. I go past a camera.... a couple of weeks later I get a letter in the mail and start walking, since even in a 110 zone, 125km/h and over is 1 month loss of license.

Lucky they caught me, or I would have taken out a busload of child prodigies coming the other way.

*FWIW, I believe the ADRs have changed, or are changing to be that they can read up to 10% over, but not read under.

Rusty, thought you may have meant that after I posted. How's it going anyway?

VQ304, hasn't there been a lot of outcry over people in Vic being booked within ADR speedo tolerances?
