    Phosphoric acid -v- rust?

Have been told that a good way of neutralising rust in inaccessible places like cavities is to spray in a mix of phosphoric acid and water. Let dry then do the same with fishoilene, techtyl or whatever and Bobs your uncle, no more rust.

Experiences? What ratio acid to water? Hey, as a Datsun owner rust and combating it is a way of life

    Rust converter. Shit imho.

Clean thoroughly and then seal with a penetrant like Rustmaster (my product) or X Troll. It seeps in and seals stuff from water and oxygen.

PS Go sling a few bucks to droopz our mate in the NT Richard :D

I use phosphoric acid for derusting parts prior to DIY plating. Works well but not exactly quick if the rust is anything more than a very light dusting on the surface. ie for anything more substantial put the part in the acid and wait several hours.

I reckon a spray on solution will have dried before really doing anything other than turning the surface black.

Phosphoric acid + scotchbrite looks useful for removing a bit flash rust after blasting etc.

For a temporary fix I've used a K&H rust converter primer before. It doesn't really do much more than seal the surface up to prevent further rust tho.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Please explain (i) Rustmaster your product, (ii) slinging bucks to droopz:w:

Can't get at it to clean it, so spray in X-Trol (or Rustmaster?). Then hit it with Fishoilene?

Having owned two late model Valiants ... Straight Rainex onto the rusted part. Rainex is mostly Phosphoric Acid.

                Prime and paint once cured.

It turns rust black and solid again. Awesome stuff.
