Bah, too fuckin heavy, the lot of em. Clarkson said it best; "Weight just kills all the fun in modern motoring."
Gimme a 940kg MX-5 or somesuch any day. No hatchback should weigh as much as a Falcodore did not so long ago...
Well then they would not have been able to make the chassis stiffer, and all other improvments which weight usually does to a car. Go drive a cheap Kia and then to a Fiesta you really notice the difference is quality and overall refinement.
If it was that easy to keep weight down then we wouldnt have mercs that weight more than 2 tonnes.
Well its not hard to think that considering he drives exotics for a living.
How well would a previous gen MX5 and say a Lotus Elise do in current crash tests????
He was talking about a smart roadster actually. And he was right. I mean, who cares if your Golfastralio MP3 makes the same power as a VS Clubbie, shouldn't it, being a hatchbacked small car, weigh less than aformentioned five-seats-and-luggage-lugger? If you give a shit more about crash testing and the quality of the noise your car doesn't make, then perhaps I could suggest performanceforum is not really your bag? May I also suggest that if you do happen to leave the road in an MX5 or elise, then the velocity involved may well mean death anyway?
Motor magazine made similar comment ref the AMG SL65, it was veddy veddy rapid, but it was simply too porky to be really fun, and that the less porky, less powerfull SL55 was the better car.
Fun doesn't just mean fast.

I dont give a crap about crash testing, I'll die in my car if i crash! But from a Manufacturers point of view it is very important.
Less powerful SL55 is less porky but you wouldnt really consider it slow.
I give no fark for crash testing, I'll die in my car if i crash! But from a Manufacturers point of view it is very important.

Fixed.
Oh and I'm still right.

Unfortunately added weight is the norm these days.
With the new VE Commodore adding 150-200kg and even hatches these days pushing 1.4 to 1.5 ton, it's a losing game.
You and I may care about weight but it seems the manufacturers don't and neither does the buying public.

No one seems to have mentioned that the majority of the overseas hype is about the 3door version, which in IMHO looks > 5door (which is what we're getting).
