    Permits to drive unreg cars?

Say you needed to transport an unregistered car from one place to another in NSW, can you still get an RTA permit to drive it on the road?

If so what are the conditions and can you go from say Melb to Syd on one?

Need to get a pink-slip to get an unreg vehicle permit, regardless of interstateyness.

yep, and if it's going from say metro sydney to metro sydney then it works out the same as having a towie move it for you. Last I checked it was $30 for the pink slip and $50 for the permit.

A friend got one for his R32 GTR, they gave three days of rego to drive from NSW to QLD. You pay for three days worth of greenslip

Can't find anything on the RTA website though.

Yeah, I might need help with the same thing. But NSW to Vic. I know what I need on the Vic side.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Mick!

I asked about this a while ago.

Vicroads say they can give you a permit that lets you drive home no matter where it is. In this case it was NSW. You only need to give them the numbers off the car. They fax you a piece of paper and your set. You have to take your proof of sale receipt with you and display the piece of paper in the windscreen.

Its costs either $30 or $60. I cant remember.

While that's true, I've seen a tow cost more, and you can also organise things on your own time with the permit (ie. no waiting for towies). There's also the issue of most towtruck drivers making sure your pride-and-joy is attached to the back of their truck by hitting it with an 80lb sledge-hammer a few times (and Towie not being available, or not doing work in your area).

I bought an MX5 in Sydney just before Xmas and the previous owner needed a pink slip and a 48 or 72hr permit which was $25 I think. I even got pulled over speeding near Moree and the cop checked all the paperwork and sent me on my way.
