Jizzmonkey - MY03 for $24K? I'm planning to buy an MY03 in the next few weeks, and I can't find any for $24K. There may be one around with 100+kms and dodgy mods for that price, otherwise the cheapest seems to be about $27,500. And they get snapped up quickly at that price. If you know of some for that price, please pm me
My01 and My02's are around the $24K mark, thanks to their looks (bugeye), extra weight over an MY00 and only 160kw motor. Still a more solid car than an MY99 and My00 though, and more std kit inside. MY99/00 with less than 100,000kms should be about 19, some people want about 21-22 though. Remember if it is close to 100,000kms then you are in for the expensive $1000 service at 100,000kms.

But hang on ... that's about the same money, and the stocker is both rarer & a safer bet mechanically. Surely modded WRX's are worth less? There aren't enough swedes out there for a modded shitter to be worth more, surely?
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

how firm is she on 24k? if negotiations end at 20k - might be alright for a stock, unmodded accident free 99 with only 11,000km's a year. hell thats one of the better colours they ever came in anyway.

One way flight to another city = about 200 bucks. Fuel back = about same. Investment = about 400 bucks, saving = about 4k. I'm, always willing to travel to find the right car.

If i was paying 24 for one of the two cars, id rather pick the one thats just had a strong motor installed, with mods done meaning I wont have to spend money on doing myself. End of the day they going to have similar wear and tear anyhow... done similar kays

Stocker being rare means nothing in this case, its... a WRX not a XY GT. And as the car is in very good condition id hardly class it as a shitter.

                Modded ones aren't worth less.

A good condition 01 for less than 20k? Dreams.

A good condition low km 99/00 for less than 20k? Dreams again.

                22k for a stock 99 with 70 odd km's is a reasonable price.

I sold a mildly modded 99 with 70K for 24.5.k not long ago, and about 9 months ago, a mildly modded 01 with similar km's for 33.5k

I doubt, even in Sydney, you will get a good 01 for less than 20k.

In the case of a WRX, 'stocker' isn't about collectibility, rather it's about there being less chance of something going wrong in the near future; f'rigzample, that shape of WRX were known for bending shells if the engine power was upped & they were raced on slicks. I've never really trusted anyone else's modifications; too many people cut too many corners; and I thought modified car prices tended to mirror that lack of trust?

I've driven a MY99 classic an MY02 bugeye and currently drive an MY05.

The classics are a lot less rigid and tend to rattle and squeak more than the post-2000 models.

Bugeye should handle better than the classic, but they are sadly lacking in the power department.

Either try to find a better MY99/00 or try and go for an MY03 or later model, they go just as hard as the Classic shape but are a lot more rigid.

I don't see 27.5K MY03's getting snapped up quick... also consider are these asking prices or reality?

I sold my MY05 _6 months ago_ for $31.5K. I was never going to get the 33K i was asking - I had already waited 3 months! I'm not sure how the market for used WRXs works if anyone is going to pay that money for an MY03 when they can get an MY05 for 30 (now). When I was selling mine there were a few others that sold for around 30.. and one MY05 sold for 28.

Watch the market and wait.. or you'll overpay. You might find a few around that 27 that you can get down to around 24K.

under $20000 for a MY00 pay more and your getting ripped off
the bug eyes are complete nuggets in comparrison to a my99-my00
hmmmm 70,000 km on a wrx thrashed or not thrashed it wont have to much longer either gearbox or melted pistons, listen to how the car cranks it should kick over imidiatly if not compression is low.also crap fuel in wrx's is not a good thing.
