I believe some foreign countries insure the person. I think in Germany you get "personal insuarance" which covers you for anything, like if you got drunk then spewed up on a expensive piece of art, or if you accidentaly set fire to someones house, or if you dropped a 150cm TV on someones head and caused them serious injury.

For fucks sake I can only drive one car at a time. It makes no sense to pay double for 2 cars. (other than to make the insurance sompanies rich) There is no more risk of me smashing into someone elses car if I own 10 cars or just 1.

I agree. You should start your own insurance company & take them on.

Registration should also be attached to the person rather than the car, especially in 3rd-world countries where they don't have yearly safety checks.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

            *zing*

that's why Forg is so beloved on PF - a sideways swipe at those lesser nation/states.

I believe however that the insurance placed on the car is to make it easier to assess via what expectations are of the car, repair costs and the *assumptions* one makes about owners of a particular marque.

Canada has the right idea, at last BC as you can't drive without insurance. Meh back in the day when i had stupid amounts of mods to my cars I never had comp insurance but I always had 3rd party and my mods were listed.

Thats what I will be doing. Its not even expensive. Just cars will do it with any mods as long as they have been mod plated and it costs hardly any more than for a stock car.

                    yep, comprehensive ftw

Over a year ago now some kid in a festiva turned right in front of me causing $9k of damage to my car. Just Car agreed that he was at fault and got my car fixed right away.

However the kid doesn't have any insurance at all so he's still trying to get out of paying up, claiming that I was speeding and driving with my headlights off (wtf?). Just Car have been behind me all the way with legal representation and everything. I think the guy owes them about $14k now because of interest and legal fees.

All this could have been avoided if he had atleast 3rd party, but being a student he said he couldn't afford it. How much would 3rd party cost on a festiva anyway, $10 a week at the most? If you cant afford any insurance then you cant afford to be driving a car.

I don't understand their logic behind my TPPD policies.

I think an under 25 male driver, driving a 5.8L V8, 1.5T 'coon is more likely to do damage to other peoples property than an ol' Dato, 1.2L, 800Kgs.

You can do stupid amounts of damage driving any kind of vehicle. They cover you for what you will hit as they arent covering your vehicle.

Nooooo... If it becomes compulsory, then those of you with low premiums will see HUGE increases as you have to start subsidising those that are currently uninsurable due to a poor driving history, or fraud etc..

if it becomes compulsory, there will be government intervention and specific price rules introduced, so basically the good risks will be subsidising the bad risks...

Ah, yes but is the guy in the XY or the guy in the 120y most likely to drive like he doesnt give a rats?

Chances are the XY is someones pride & joy...the 120y is transport.

You should be able to privately insure yourself for the third party medical - if you are a good driver with no accident history why should you subsidise a complete farkwit?. Of course the compulsory aspect would remain the same, surely the competition between insurance companise would keep things competitive. Or is that just a lumpy pipe-dream?

Forg stop being bitter and jealous because you don't live in Kingswood country.
