Quick question: If you have a 25/30 motor, you don't need to make custom pistons do you?

I have someone telling me you do and I am argueing against.

no you dont, you may have to fly cut if the head is decked a lot but that would be it

the bore remains 86mm so you don't need new pistons

as long as your current pistons are ok

just check what the dish is for compression ratio

why does it matter if you arent building the engine and have no actual knowledge about it?

but no, you dont need customer pistons... but yes you can depending on what you are trying to achieve

isnt old mate 10sec_rx7 doing the build? shouldnt he be consulting and making the decisions?

Phee I just find it extremely odd that you are building this engine without researching it and lacking the knowledge.

If someone else is doing it start to finish and you just write the cheques then it doesnt matter, but if you are parts buying....

yes i am an arsehole :D

ok glad you know you're an asshole :p

It's a long story, a good mate of mine (who is argueing that you need custom pistons) has a good mate here in Darwin who rebuild all the track cars etc. I didn't even know he existed but anyway... long story short, I have spoken to Bazz (mechanic) and he knows what I want and is able to do everything for me charging parts only. Bazz rebuild all our track/sprint/race cars up here. He wants a few cartons for labour so the price has dropped from a little over 7k to a little over 4k which suits me just fine.

I don't know if Bazz has said I need customs pistons or if it was this good mate of mine but if it was Bazz I am starting to doubt he is capable of rebuilding this.

for just a little over $4k for a drive out rebuild, he deserves a blowjob

that's mates' rates and a half

There is no Motec knock control option. They've been working on it for nearly ten years and never got it right.
