For that money...forged pistons & stock but balanced everything else. Maybe shot peened rods or cheapie aftermarket ones.

yeah sell the other crap and do this
"TJs on the ball - everyone has seen RB25s with Jap cams, fueling, big turbo, good management do well well in excess of 300rwkW with excellent reliability on 95 ron. They should spool in the mid-3,000rpm range."
on a good RB25DET front cut. Hell I'd even look at ditching the motec for something cheaper/simpler. Ohh and it might be worth the coin to put it on a transporter and send the car to Dale or something else. Choose someone that seems to know how to keep them together in the first place.
Sounds like it was a dog of a thing to start with where some twerp built a "I got this massive turbo on my skyline bro how sik am I car" and unfortunately you've inheritted all the associated problems.

id be voting 25 with pistons rods and cams, good tune!, and a very quick street car
Yes but it's Darwin and there's barely enough good tuners (especially for something as spendy as a MoTec) in the rest of the country let alone there.

I would have trouble finding a competant and cost effective motec tuner in Sydney!Originally posted by boxxx

So how many people here have had a mildly modified car which ran well, something went wrong with it (like blown bottom end or head gasket or whatever) then gone all out and put some more serious mods on, then regretted the unreliable, noisy, loss of driveability type car they have now then sold it?Parramatta Eels, 2009 Premiership rightful winners.

I would say its not really anything to do with Darwin in general, but a particular crowd of tossers. Let's hope they stay at boostcruising.Originally posted by pheeThe good thing about talking about all this on PF is that because Darwin is small, word spreads quick and I want to have a discussion with people that know their shit without running off to tell everyone they know. Yes, Darwin is that bad.

If you are looking for engine builder options, these guys post a bit on various forums and seem to know their shit re RB engines:

The idea that a secondhand RB25 engine is going to be reliable and good value is ridiculous. RB25s are dear as poison because demand is high due to the fact that they are a shit engine that can't take much power.
Here's the scenario, Phee buys a front cut of an R33, that costs $4500 for a manual, she then pays at least $1000 for freight to Darwin, she then pays 4-5 hours labour just to remove it from the cut. The std engine is then on the edge because it is an RB25 and it has no warranty because it is modified. The engine lets go for the same reason the other engine did. Total waste of money.
Get 10secRX7 to have an RB30DET built. Guaranteed result AND an improvement in driveability, reliabilty and power(all on shitty NT fuel).David Fraser - Automotive Historian!
