I have already spoken to Dale away from PF and there is a very likely option there. I just have to make a decision.

As far as the unit goes, my living conditions have changed since whenever I said that, and I am quite happy where I am currently so it wont matter if that goes on hold for 6 months.

I've been there done that Phee (GTR not GTST tho)
Just beware all this money you are (about) to spend on it, you will never see it again (personal experience)
If it were my car it'd be a stock RB25DET again

If I didn't care about return, RB30DET ftw. Just go nuts.

I was trying to explain this to someone on MSN... might be worth putting in here.

I have owned an actual performance car for 3 months. It has only been on the road 2 months. I have wanted a R33 since I was 17 - 18 and when I finally get one, it blows up. It's not a nice feeling to have something to have been aiming for, for so long, fuck up straight after you get it. However, if I knew what I know now it wouldn't have happened. That's why they are called mistakes. I am learning about all of this REAL fast.

The advise everyone has given me has been awesome, I really do appreciate it, and you lot have had so much more experience than me. 3 months of a performance car is fuck all compared to what you guys have had the privilege of having.

This is something that keep bugging me when someone mentions downgrading the power.

If you finally got the car you have always wanted, with the performance you have only ever been able to dream about, would you return it to stock or near stock from after only 2 months of on road fun and games? Is 2 months enough?

I know you don't get money back on cars, that's a given. Any money I put into it I might as well put a match to as I will never see it again, but do you guys really regret modifying your cars, to a point that you wish you never did it at all? I haven't even had that chance yet.

I have no intentions on mod'ing the engine to the point it might as well be made out of gold, but I do want something stronger, more reliable, drivable and serious and so why not grab this chance and run? Ok, I don't have the money sitting there just yet, but I have been going without and I think it's worth it. Living on the cheap isn't so bad. Wouldn't want to live this way forever but hell, 5 - 6 months wont kill me. At least I hope not

Anyway, I just thought I would say that so you all know what my decisions are going to be based on. Whatever they are going to be.

LOL! Thanks I guess. It's all good, I'll appreciate it more if I save it and go without for a while. If people donate then I'll owe you all a ride in it, and we can't have that :p

For mine, its all about opportunity cost - and priorities change.

To give you an idea, it cost me $4200 for mine to be built
(I supplied an RB30 which cost me $150 and an rb25det head).

This included all new parts, CP forged pistons, machining, gaskets, acid dipping+cleaning and fitting of all parts (including the turbo/inlet manifold, etc) and a special metal ringed head gasket

PowerFC cost me $927 including a hand controller - tune cost me about $500.

so $4700 from Brescwhatever is not a bad price if it includes assembly of the long motor and accesories - ie: ready to drop in.

Do you actually need that much power??

I really really wanted a 600hp GTR, i now have one great but you know what i open it up maybe once a month for 10seconds and thats it...

Unless you use it as a dedicated track/drag car that kind of power is useless on the road..

Yeah I think you just need to accept that performance is going to come at the compromise of a number of things, including money, drivability and reliability. If you are happy with the compromise go for it, if not reconsider something else.

Personally I was thinking about modding my r33, until I released I like the fact I can drive away a couple of hundred km's for the weekend without fear of breaking down in a big way or that the car will always be usuable. I think mine is getting closer and closer to stock instead of being the other way around. I just kinda realised I dont need 300rwkw like a lot of other skyline owners seem to think so, it would be nice, but not essential for daily life really! Thats not aimed at you phee, just a general tangent.

mine didn't have anywhere near 278kW and it was getting near on undriveable in the wet and this had a full bilstein kit on it...

I dont understand why anyone would argue that it is a good idea to buy another secondhand RB25 when they cost litteraly 20 times more than a second hand RB30. A second hand RB30 will go harder and have less chance of blowing up on shit fuel due to the lower CR. And if it blows up it's only worth $150. IMO fitting another secondhand RB25 bottom end is insanity when a better and MUCH cheaper bottom end is available.

Phee - Do what is right for you in the circumstances mate. Since i was about 18 i always wanted to race but never thought i'd actually do it - i ended up having to wait until i was 31 before i finally built one...

It cost me a shitload and i've probably pissed at least 30k down the drain. But hey, i built a car from scratch, finished Top 5 at State level several times in the toughest IPRA grids in Australia and had the kind of fun you just can't put a price on... When i'm old at least i can say i did it and i had a ball getting out there and having a go - i can show my kids / grandkids etc what i used to do and be proud of it...

If you can afford it and feel you will get a great deal of satisfaction out of owning a fast car then just go for it. You have plenty of time to get old and drive a normal everyday car...

FWIW my next "project" will be a turbocharged LS1 VY SS Commodore. Life is all about balance - you gotta have some fun !! :D
The older i get, the better i was...
