Cos the entrants will get a great idea on braking distances from the skidmarks left by Asian uni students in Honda's before they bounced off the armco.
To be honest, I don't think I've ever done it in the daylight!
Will post details as soon as they're available....
Southo - I think it will be normal hillclimb rules - ie no cage etc

If you are all so excited about driving flat out, legally, on public roads, why don't some of you try gravel rallying?
Rallying is real racing though; and hence requires a real race car. My budget just doesn't allow for that. My guess, mind you, is that my budget doesn't allow for any pie-races - for similar reasons.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.
Forg - I'm tipping the entry price will be quite low. Probably less than a track day at Eastern Creek.

Chris, projected date?
How many pies and cappuchinos is the first prize? :p
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

Jim - weekend of 2-3 Dec 2006 as per my first post
I think it will be pretty cheap and I don't think you'll need a cage. Could be wrong though....
OPH is much longer than 4.5kms, you just can't close off all of it for a hillclimb unfortunately

Guys,
I am allowed to release the following "rumors"
(they are still "rumors" as there are still a few loose ends to finalise - but "they shouldn't be a problem" I was told..)
website coming soon....
Make of them what you will... (and spread the word I was told)
It starts near a bridge and ends near a pie shop
It is on the weekend of Sat 2nd / Sun 3rd December 2006
It's 4.5 Kilometres in length
There will be a limit of 150 cars
It will NOT require a roll cage, and hence NOT needing full CAMS regs in regards to vehicle preparation.. - Obviously there will be other regs that you have to abide by - Fire Extinguisher, Helmet, Clothing, Road Registered and must pass scruitineering etc...
Entry will be under $1,000 per driver (how far under is yet to be finalised)
There will be opportunity for Driver AND co driver runs in the same car.
Vehicles will start at 30 Sec intervals
It is expected that you will get 6-8 runs each per day
As I said, these are the only "rumors" I can release at this stage
So... This looks like the opportunity for those of you who say you are quick on the "insert road here" to prove it.....
What is that saying again...???
When the Flag drops.....
Yep, more like ~35km with three distinct sections.
The thing about OPH is that it's the road which a hell of a lot of Sydney learnt to drive on and a road which every one of those people have stood next to late at night thinking "wouldn't it be fantastic if just once they'd allow someone to run a hillclimb here". If this event comes off it's the realisation of the collective dreams of thousands of enthusiasts.
Thats not to say it's not a great road in it's own right, in something a bit underpowered it doesn't exactly shine as you're basically WOT from bottom to top however in a car with some go it's butt clenching fan bloody tastic with a lot of reasonably tight but still high speed corners and every one of them with a blind exit. Personally I'm planning on taking it with something RWD, over 500hp and under 1100kg, I can assure you MickyD it will be a long way from dull.

Any chance of allowing unregistered CAMS log booked cars in i wonder ??
I'd love to give my lowly 250rwhp sub 1000kg (until i get in it !!) RX-7 a run...
may be to do with the CAMS permit issued, being on a public road, and also if it is a rally permit, may require registered vehicles there. Also may depend on whether the road is closed when the cars return up the hill, or perhaps they return via the F3? That is all I can think of, because bulahdelah hillclimb for instance, also the mattara hillclimb are run on closed public roads, and let's just say that Peter Gumley's SCV ain't got plates. I was pondering this earlier, what permit it would be run under, I was guessing multicar speed event or rally, so I guess the rally permit would be the go.
If this is the case, what would be the licensing requirement? 2S? Clubman rally? National Rally?
I'm catching up with Anthony Sunday Arvo, so I will find out what I can and can't confirm (ie, regarding registered cars, slicks, what permit etc..)
If they allow co-drivers, then those Vehicles would be starting at the beginning and that should allow enough time to return the vehicle back down (Via an alternate road) for the co-driver to have their run..
There is an interchange approx 1km from the flying finish, at there is NOT enough room to keep 150 cars at the finish... - so I reckon the cars will be sent back down the alternative route to keep things flowing smoothly.. (hence I am sure they will require SOME road worthyness in regards to brake lights / indicators etc...
Keep an eye out for www.racetothepie.com which is under construction at the moment
