In an attempt to get rid of the spacers (they were free), im going to fit a k-mac rear camber kit.. not to make the camber stronger, but to pull in the bottom of the wheel. I may then be able to remove the spacer as the top of the wheel will not hit the guard on the inner side. The other option is to again remove the spacer but cut into the inner guard to make sure the wheels dont rub. There was very minimal contact in closer inspection. Its just that it was bloody loud.

Ok, spoke to the RTA Technical advice line aswell as 2 engineer's today to sort the truth from the shit.

Spacers are legal if bolted to the hub and do not increase track by more then 26mm and are accompanied by an engineering certificate and blue slip approved.

My spacers are 5-6mm a side, max 12mm increase in track.

Wheels can be up to 1inch wider. However if your vehicle is over 1200kg you can go as high as 1.5inch wider if accompanied by an engineering certificate and blue slip approved.

My wheels are 9.5inch wide on the rear which is over by .5inch. I can get this approved as my vehicle weight is more then 1200kg.

Its going to cost about $250-300 for the engineering certificate aswell as approx $50 for the blueslip.

I can then have the wheels ive bought, with the spacers and concentrate on lowering the vehicle as desired. In this case, probably coilovers from KW, HR or Bilstein.

Maybe you can have them drilled and tapped for some countersunk socket heads. If they are only thin then the spigot diameter will not work either.

The spacer should have a female bore deep enough to cover the existing spigot on the hub (which usually goes into the wheel) Then it needs another male spigot facing out the same size as the original to locate the wheel on. In my experience the spigot sticks out 6 mm on the standard hub, si your wheels won't be located on the spigot. So bingo. No engineers certificate again!

Nobody said it would be easy. Why not get the right wheels?

Wheels were imported and a special order.

It wont be easy as the spacers ive got (only 6mm) arent what I would have to attach to the hub. As you explained, they need to be seperately bolted.

Thats an HR spacer, 20mm which as you can see gets bolted to the hub, and then you bolt the wheel to it. 20mm is massive though, I dont need anything like that.

Im actually hoping to lose the spacers all together. Its only 3-5mm clearance I needed anyway. Im sure I can cut away the very small section of rear plastic wheel-well guard which was catching.

Pffft, just do some burnouts and wear the tyres out by %50.

That'll give you the 3-5 mm you need.

What possessed you to get 265 tyres for a car of that power?

Looking at the images again, the spacers may cause the wheels to protrude from the guards.....they look like they're fitting flush at the moment.

The wheels are still under the guard with the 6mm. But with 20mm, it'd definately be sticking out.

I didnt choose the 265 tyres.. they were fitted by the wheel shop. When I asked for them to switch to 255 they tried finding another kumho tyre but there isnt one. They also said it wouldnt look right (which I didnt care about) and also the 255's they had would be almost $500 a tyre. Some Yokohama tyre.

Sorry to be a bastard but if they were special order and you had gone to that much trouble already surely you would have specially ordered the right size to avoid the fucking about?

They were a special order cause thier not stocked locally. They dont stock the 5x100 PCD which I need for the TT hence ordering them in. The offset ordered is correct, the width is correct. The problem is that the tyres fitted are 265 wide, not 255 which is what I really needed.

To change the tyres to another brand in the size I need is going to be very expensive.

I only need a few mm extra clearance and itll be fine and im looking into all the options available, whether that be spacers, shaving the inner guard or a negative camber kit. (as the wheels are heavily cambered from the factory).
