    OBD-II systems - they record faults as well as out-of-normal-range alarms. You take the engine monitoring concepts in OBD-II and apply it to stuff like the ABS, airbags, suspension etc.

    It's not true data-logging - but it event/alarm logging.

    Also, in the case of the airbags, it's like a flight data recorder - the last XX minutes of it's life.

You break the speed limit in the rental car and your insurance is automatically voided. Also the rental company automatically bills your credit card the amount of a speeding fine in case they get hit with one later on the car.
