Bollocks. Having a Golf TDI in Europe means that you rate an entry level company car, or that you are a rep on the road, and that's about it. I assume you meant Eastern europe...

National fleet discount on the base Astra manual is $2838.

That gets it on the road (with no extras) for under $30k.

I'm just not convinced that the diesel is any better than the petrol. Fuel consumption is on a par...why else would I pay more?

I quite like the current Astra, especially the Wagon version.....
I drove the previous model Astra diesel in europe, and although no ball of fire was far torquier and relaxing than standard Petrol version.

          Would I buy one......?

BTW, I thought I saw a Holden Ad in the weekend paper claiming 1000kms per tank in an Astra Diesel?

And the engine only slightly sounds like a diesel. Oh wait, that's the petrol version.

I've driven a range of manual's and auto's, and a manual cdx diesel (what ever the damn badge says) isn't a bad bit of kit.

I've driven all the golf variants (thanks to my mate who is a manager at VW).

For the $$$ concious I'd get the 1.9TDi Comfortline either manual or DSG.

It still has plenty of poke (decent TQ given it's Turbs and all). Even the DSG will smoke it's little wheels with ESP off...without much effort. There should still be a batch of 1.9TDi's with satnav factory bonus floating around.

The 2.0TDi gets exxy and if you go down that avenue - then might as well option it up and consider the fuel savings as the neutraliser in costs.

The resale after a given period outshines the others - even the Opel because it carries the holden badge.

I think it'll come down to the deal you get and what looks you fall for.

Regardless - DIESEL for a daily FTMFW!!!!!

I'm rapt with my GTI 5.5L/100 but when I jump into the diesels and see the 3.2L/100 or 1200km DTE I cry.......

              Crunch time is this:

              examples of my cars:
              350Z - full tank of Shell Extreme ~72L @ $120 DTE = 650km
              GTI - full tank of Shell Extreme ~55L @ $86 DTE = 600km

              compared to:

              2.0TDi - full tank of Shell Diesel ~55L @ $75 DTE 1200km
The liquid hydrogen turbopump is slightly larger than an automobile engine (weighing approximately 700 lb) and produces nearly 70,000 hp (52.2 MW).
