Or they've paid the media outlets a fair amount of $$. The amount of reference to European.. and Audi, VW, etc etc in the same breath as Australia... kind of funny. Now is it an "Aussie" car or "European"? We've got an identity mess.

To be fair, they are a lot better than they were in the 70s & 80s, and this new VE quite likely is a decent thing. Their main problem is that they've released a heavier thirstier car in the middle of an oil shock.

But yesterday's go-auto says they've achieved sub 10L/100km easily in mixed city and highway cycles... then proceeded to say it was less than the govt's official 10.9 figure.
