I could consider one of these things - rare enough to be unusual, not valuable, and no-one on planet earth would look at it and think "Hmm, that might be quick".
GET A COMMODORE JIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
no one would ever suspect that a commodore would be quick !!!!!
get a VS and some V6 side badges.
but then found found that someone had beaten us to it with a supercharged 350 chev in one as seen on the lower part of this link, http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/divco.htm
It is still running and still delivers milk, great sleeper maybe, but defeats the purpose of a new sleeper idea as it would sort of wake the neighbours, or anyone within a few hundred metres, head turning ability would be up there though!
SO what about something like this:
It has a 2 clinder engine, but maybe a wankel based single rotor engine like the one of the ones being assembled in the lower link: http://www.atkinsrotary.com/
which are generally used in light aircraft, connected to the 4wd system in the halflinger
I know it won't be easy, but i didn't think we were being totally literal here in our making of sleepers, i just figured we were after orginality... if you were after something easier, an older 70's jag for a couple of grand with a 1jz, 2jz, rb whatever, you would save a bucket load of weight from the clunky old 6 cylinder in it as well... plus some may concider it had a bit of class as well as looks.
get something turbo from the states and slot it straight in. theres a VW Country Buggy on it's side on the way out of Redenberry Bridge in Singleton if anyone is up for a challenge.

it's the fore runner to a kombi, built on a chassis VW supplied for coachbuilding utilities onto.
the Mercedes-Benz 300SLR transporter is still the best (for ugly/weird looking trucks), same engine as a 300SLR using bits and peices from different M-B models, the fastest racecar transporter at the time. would be an awesome sleeper when it's empty, pity theres only 1 in the world
what about a VW polo engined Trabant 1.1? they made them for a short period before the wall came down, i'm sure you can slot in a bigger VW engine, maybe a 1.8 16V? think of the handling!
