    Diesel does 500 clicks

    Age of diesel performance is upon us thanks to corporate marketing megabucks.

    JCB's diesel land speed record car posts averaged runs of 308 and 325 mph, thus setting a record at an average of 317mph.

    Having achieved the course record, the JCB DIESELMAX team will now prepare the vehicle for its official FIA record attempt. The car will now be fitted with the 750bhp JCB444-LSR “record” engines.

        There is no top fuel for petrol... its nitro methane IIRC.

          top fuel is nitro metane.... that diesels from about half track since the spark electrodes are melted.

            Of course it diesels. It diesels in my 0.15 ci aeroplane engine too.

                  OK. Fine. :D

                  It is very cool, but I can't see what they claimed as the power of the development engines that set that record. 750 out of 2 is pretty stout.

                          when you get dual fuel on a petrol car for less than the upgrade to a deisel car you will be laughing even more though...

                            pretty impressive stuff and as Bill said, I wonder how much further these guys can go with a little more development time. Hopefully it will be used for many years to come as well, unlike a few other top speed experiments that have been used a few times and put away.
