Toyota make 3.7 million cars for the JDM market every year

Toyota AU sell about 100,000 vehicles per year.

This tells you why the AU lineup is snores-ville and why Toyota JDM products are so sought after as imports.

What astounds me is that the total JDM market must be in excess of 5-6 million cars per year?

With their policy of renewing cars every so often can you imagine what happens to all these old cars each and every year?

of course a certain % ends up in NZ, AU and other RHD markets but surely that's once giant mountain of cubed cars?

that's the japanese market - voracious, disposable, 'gear headed'.

in reality, not much to do with the inspection process (which is two-yearly anyway - so not overly pricey) - though it is another incentive to get rid of cars after the three-year grace period.

also - when you look at it, the 2nd hand export market is pretty damn big, and not limited to the RHD countries: australia, new zealand, middle east, south america, uk/europe, canada, much of asia... I drive past the docks quite often in kobe/osaka - and the amount of cars in the yards is stunning.

              re: civic

the gear lever sticks out like a penis at a public convenience at a truckstop (yes I see Drawn Together)

also the interior from the picture has all the charm of a Hyundai Getz vis a vis plastic surfaces

I thank DaiOni for his insights, invaluable given he is actually in Japan - from the mag. report I have on Toyota, the Toyota JDM market is bigger in absolute numbers than Toyota Global!
