Peter Debnam calls for the abolishment of the NSW RTA

Who is Peter Debnam? Good question. He's the NSW opposition leader.

His response to the camera fiasco is to disband the RTA as it's a corrupt and incompetant organisation that flies in the face of the courts.

Which is true of course however this is like Kim Beasley's suggestion that he'll abolish Workchoices and the GST if he gets in.

    Fanciful.

Peter Debnam is an absolute retate ... I really do wonder if the state-level Liberal party suffers terribly because the federal level is so strong & so only the complete rejects get involved at state level? This guy is seriously a moron, and is willing to look like a complete moron if it gets his head in the media. For example, the police service had recently released a public/media request for anyone in a particular area a month ago to come forward if they saw anything which might help investigations into a nasty rape; Debnam insantly came out & said the police were incompetent because they should have released everything about it to the police a month ago. Absolute fool.

Not really; Peter Russell Clark didn't know who cut the cheese, whereas Debnam did it.

i believe within NSW politics, peter debnam is the kim beazley of the australian labour party.
im suprised that both of these "leaders" have the continual support of their parties.

so who would replace the RTA?

I think that 'Barry', the chimp that radio 2MMM's marketing department are claiming is making the music selections, could replace the RTA. He might need his brother (the guy on the Optus ad), and his American cousin (grandson of the chimp that was on Get Smart), in order to get all the required roadworks done.

You have to be right some of the time, it can't be avoided.

so... just for shits and giggles lets follow this bit of fantasy (as much as I'd like to see an RTA brand of Soylent Green)...

The RTA gets sacked holus bolus and a new authority established. So far redundancy packages for non gov't employees cost a shitload, new stationary and other branded stuff costs a shitload to replace. All the gov't employees are still on wages because you can't sack public servants, only shuffle them around. So all the useless beureaucratic crooks are still in gov't employ, but now doing nothing and earning a full wage.

Then you name the new CEO/directory type person, who then goes looking for managers and staff with motor vehicle dep't experience, finds a huge pool of ex RTA people soaking up budget doing nothing, and re-employs them all back into the new dep't.

Net result: a huge expense and fuck all has changed.

First thing they need to do is make it easier to sack useless or corrupt public servants.
Turns out, far too much has been written about great men and not nearly enough about morons

Ok lets be honest about this...

Why do we need state governments and seperate entities for all things...like traffic authorities? We are a country of 22 million people for gods sake, we dont need 50% of them in the civil service

the state governments were set up cos of the distances involved...now you can get anywhere in Australia from Canberra in 6 hours.

What we need is to abolish the lot and set up one authority for all this stuff for the whole country

Oh and to tell all these public servants to start working like the rest of the country and shut up about ridiculous redundancy claims etc

For that we would need politicians with balls...unfortunately to become a politician you must submit to having your balls removed.

Ahh management... pissing in your shoes and then forming a committee to see why your socks are wet.

I agree to the theory, problem is the only thing stopping the last aussie assets being sold to overseas interests is the state gov'ts. I'd hate to see what the current federal gov't would be like with the brakes off.

I'd agree with this as well - 20 million people don't need three levels of govt.

IMO we need a national motoring bureacracy - all databases linked with a national standard for roads and infractions. Preferably based on the Northern Territory model.
