The biggest advance is surely stability control. A first for an Australian built car. Looked to work very well too, especially on dirt. That will surely be the way of the future for all cars, sooner or later.

That test drive thing that some marketing tool posted in the video section was sort of shown too, they looked pox on the track though. It's a big leap forward for Aussie design and build from a clean sheet. Kudos.

The other thing on that promo was the four post rig they built for rough road nvh testing. holy shit they punished the car on it! If they truly used that to sort out long term rattles and squeaks then this will be one solid car. Looking forward to buying one in ten years when I can afford it :D
The Territory and the premium Fords already have the stabilty control.

I've never really understood the constant bagging of HSV's and the like. Some sort of snobbery, no doubt from people who own clapped out R31's and MR Lancers. Fact is, this will be a very very fast car, with a fair whack of practicality and day-to-day driveability on its side. Finally, it doesn't look like a Commodore with a bodykit either, as they have in the past.

Those vibration rigs arnt anything new, I remember on a Ford tour they took our club to see inside the testing factory and showed us one (back in the AU days), they even let a father and son sit in it while it was running the kid loved it

so do many VZ comodes . Like the Fords a bit half arsed in application though. ESP /DSC is better implemented from the outset into the design rather than added on . In VE its standard across the range as it really should be.

I went and had a good look at a VE SS-V yesterday, they're not my sort of car but I went in with an open mind anyway...
the quality of the plastics inside is pretty inconsistent I thought, it felt like I was sitting 'on' the seat, not 'in' it, the finishing of the carpet in the boot was rough, and the new car smell was BAD, but what really annoyed me was the experience of walking into the dealership and having the sales guys circling like vultures, really is very offputting. compare that to the BMW dealership I walked into 2 minutes later, where the first interaction I had was someone coming up and asking if I wanted a coffee....

that's the difference between high volume, minimal margin vs low volume, ridiculous margins

Its the HSV owners who act snobbery for the most part. Remember the 185kw HSV's? People with these tought they were the shit coz they drove a HSV but they sucked big time. Ford and Holden are trying to go Euro and import at the same time. Will be the same story, Holden boys praise it, Ford boys bag it and import boys plan to smash the next V8 that comes rolling off the line.

Also ZOMG I agree with puff datto. It is a masterpiece. Seriously, stability control, huge brakes, awesome performance, reasonable economy. What's not to like?

So's an M5 Beemer or AMG E class, both at 1800+ kg, which is similar to what the new HSVs will weigh.

So it is hardly on its own there, and it's a criticism you could level at nearly all recent cars, they've piled on the pounds over the last decade, good NVH & safety performance clearly having taken priority over fuel efficiency in recent designs.

Yeah so I went to the dealer to check out teh SS-V. Got out the verniers and checked all the panel gaps I found the boot lid was out by 0.01mm and the front passenger door was out by 0.03mm. Totally unacceptable!
The plastics look like plastic but I too can tell they're of inconsistent quality because it's on an Australian built car it just has to be.
I asked the dealer about the engine and he mentioned the word "pushrod" so I was like "OMG pushrods are gay you need an 11ty billion dollar engine that still produces the same power or else people on PF will whinge!"

despite being a promo that show was ok. i liked the big ballon that was cool.
overall looks like a pretty good car, however im sure the fuel economy will be harped on, if only they could get rid of a few hundred kilos....

i wonder what fuel economy would be like if the power outputs wern't as high (relatively)? considering the gains in econmoy and power gains, how would the fuel usage between an old red and alloytec at same power levels be?

as opposed to telling they're inconsistent quality because textures right next to each other are completely mismatched...

My friend had a placement working at ROH finishing the 3.6 inlet manifolds after they were cast. he was removing the last of the burrs and checking they were within tolerances. They have a +/- 5mm tolerance on the inlet runners, so if anyone gets one and it doesnt seem to go as well as other VE's... might be worth ripping the manifold off and port matching it?
