AgreedOriginally posted by tremoloComparing drivers from different eras really shits me. They’re a completely different breed: old-school drivers used to bicycle tyres, swing axles and supercharged straight-8s run on methanol would be useless in the big downforce, big g-force cars of today (and vice versa).
The only way to compare is to look at the relative performances against who was the next best at the time.
Fangio, Prost, Senna et al were better than the best of the day - most of the time.
This describes Schumi too.
I think we can all be glad that we were able to witness one of the great drivers of all time.
cheers

Willi Weber's (MS's manager) insights:
However as was noted in the race report, the most interesting and revealing post-race quote came from Willi Weber who admitted that Michael's main reason for retirement was not to spend more time with his children, it was down to him losing influence at Ferrari and not being able to exert his No.1 status from 2007. In effect he's retiring because he's not prepared to race Raikkonen on equal terms."If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough horsepower." - Mark Donahue Penske Porsche 917

i think it's pretty lame on schueys part if thats true
that to me is the biggest detraction from his career - the preferential treatment he has recieved since joining ferrari.
Even though montoya failed at Mclaren, at least he had the balls to run up against another top driver in same machinery.

I don't think it was quite like that. I think Ferrari put him into a corner. ie they'd already signed Massa and that left one spot. At best Schumi might have had a year or two in him, but who would they have gotten to replace him. So I think he had no choice but to retire.Originally posted by bigmuzThat takes the gloss off it all a bit doesn't it.
Ferrari tells schey he will be equal no. 1.
Schuey tells them not to do it or he will quit.
They do it anyway.
He quits.
Nice....
I think his preferential treatment was justified given that he was far better than his teammates. Yeh they must be missing those fragile engines, although Cosworth seem to be trying a bit lately :D Drag, baby, F1 trap speed is always about dragOriginally posted by itsnotagsrJust goes to show how shit Williams are without BMW.
BMW had higher trap speeds than Ferrari and Renault! That engine must be putting out some great hp...

Correct, but I think he also set the 4th quickest lap time, so it must turn a corner reasonably well...Originally posted by 260DETYeh they must be missing those fragile engines, although Cosworth seem to be trying a bit lately :D Drag, baby, F1 trap speed is always about drag

Typical MS.
Its no loss to me to see him leave. He cheated his way to a title against Damon Hill, and nearly did the same to JV.
Now he runs because he is scared of Kimi. Great, what a legend, AAA++++++ will watch again... or not.Originally posted by brasherTJ is 99% African American.
