I'll probably cop a bit of shit for this, but I personally don't think his the greatest driver ever. His good, but not great. There has been far greater legends in F1 than shoey. I personally think Jim Clark was the best driver ever because he could race just about anything with wheels and win. Sad that he died so early in his career. Then there is senna. need I say more.
Yeah, but Clark was racing during a period where F1 drivers had a go at anything with 4 wheels, including Le Mans/sportscars, Indy, stock saloon cars and F2.
There's no way an F1 star would be allowed to risk himself by racing in a junior category today, and there is nothing to suggest that Schuey wouldn't be just as stunning in say a production car category...
Yeah, because Schumacher is a felon..... comparing those two is as ridiculous as comparing drivers from other eras to drivers of today..... a complete wank.
No, its like saying Tyson is a shit boxer because he was accused with rape. Fact is he was one of the greatest boxers ever, regardless of his off-ring antics.
Unfortunately we are more then just robots, so we do have emotional thought.
If his morals stoop as low to do what he did then, and even Monaco this year, then his ranking to me falls for it. Same as Senna, people forgot he did some questionable things because he was good.

The thing is to be the greatest you must want nothing less than to win at all costs. The F1 world championship is not a popularity or beauty contest. You don't win because you're a nice guy. Otherwise Webber would be a multiple champion!
Some of the greatest driving I've seen is that last race in Hungary. Sure he tangled with Heidfeld and lost out. But did you see the condition of his tyres? He did a double stint on the same used intermediate tyres when everyone else was on slicks. Yet somehow he was able to stick with the leaders (although losing time). I think that absolute desire to win made him a champion. Any other driver would have pitted again, but Schumi put it all on black in an effort to claw back the points.

Anyone else think that this is a perfect opportunity for Flav and Renault, for whom Schumi drove for at Beneton to sign up Schumi for next year? He'd be better than Fisi!

One of the big F1 forums ran a whole post on the Schumacher and Hill Incident, they gathered telementary (sp?) and all various sorts of data and discussed it fairly. The outcome was it was a racing incident... Which I believe it was, come on, the car was damaged from Schumachers intial wall hit.
The Villeneuve incident was very poor, Scumacher has publically stated that, that one incident is his biggest regret in his racing career.
As someone said before, you'll tell your grandkids, I saw Schumacher race.....

Agreed. He might not have had a heap of personality but I actually admire the fact that he'd do almost anything to win - that's what racing is all about and anyone who's competed seriously will understand where he came from. Being a nice guy doesn't get you championships.
