Bit of a bump, what do people think of '01 Pathfinders?
We are looking at buying one to tow a rally car with (towing capacity is fine, whether it does it well or not is another question!) and a little running around here and there. We are looking at an ST, which is the cheaper version without climate control, airbags, sunroof and ABS.

Redbook suggests 18,700-22,000, but the simple fact is they aren't grabbing that. We looked at one that we discovered had been owned by Redbull and one point and had been treated like absolute shit, guy wanted 18,000 for it too.

The one we are looking at is in perfect nick with a few extra goodies like roof racks, one of those storage containers that go on top and a few other goodies. The guy is going overseas for good, later in the week and we were going to offer him less than 18000 (which he said he would take, he originally started at 22000).

      Good idea or bad idea?

        original question: VW Multivan 2.5TDI 6spd, 9.5lt/100k
I don't care a damn for your loyalty when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong.

TD prados are absolute shitters to drive IMHO and the fuel economy is fucked in them as soon as you load them up. my old man has down a few simpson desert/ 500km+ trips ( i know your wife may not be going to dot hese each week) in both the TD and the petrol prados and is 100% on the petrol bandwagon. i also think the diesels in the prado are a very noisy engine.

if you do decide to go the TD i would look at getting the piggyback chip for them to at least give them a little more go.

fuel economy on the TD prado and the new TD cruiser is comparable if that helps.

DI-D pajero? surely they are close to giving these away now?

Driven one a couple of times. Haven't towed with one or anything but I don't find them a bad thing. Seems to need to be/wants to rev a bit more than I would expect/want in a 4wd to get it to move. Apart from that a pretty easy drive and the 2 we have at work seem to be reliable.

Thanks! We can get a pretty good price on it, and it is in very good condition, so might be a go-er!

Oh ha ha ... kicking the defender when its... well not DOWN ;-)

I get on average 9l/p100 CITY driving, about 8 when on the Highway ...

2.5 / 5cyn TD FTW ... Like to see ya Landcruisers etc get that.. though my mates Prado gets Very similar ... If it was my money (due to needing 7 seats)

I would get a prado, TD

06 turbo diesel Pathfinder.... 10l/100Km around town and 8l/100 on the hwy. But then im biased... as it has the same engine as my Navara

Daveeee I'd expect it to be massively heavy on the juice when towing being petrol and all.

My work car is an 05 DiD Pajero auto (5spd auto!)
I consistantly get 10l/100kms around town and 9l/100km on a trip.
If you can handle a bit of diesel engine noise, then it is a great 4wd.
I DO use it in 4wd quite heavily on a weekly basis.
Towing capacity is also good (2500kg IIRC).
It also has 7 seats as standard that lift up from the floor in the rear.
The only drawback that i see is the rear springs are a little soft when carrying a load, and that of the 4 Pajero's i have had, none have had a good back door seal, allowing dust past the seal.
Apart from this they have all been great and caused no greif in the 60k kms i drive them for.
Far better and more user friendly than a DieselPatrol IMHO, Prado DiD would be my second choice.
                          Hope this helps.
