aren't people concerned about build quality?

family pack toyotas may be boring as bat shite but they are bolted together properly.

I won't slag off all the cars I've driven lately that literally fall apart around you... that would probably aggrovate the mitsu/holden/ford fans reading.

Toyota have had more recalls in the last few years than both Ford and Holden, they recalled 2.2millions vehicles Worldwide in 2005

Toyota Motor Corp says it's recalling about 420,000 vehicles globally over a faulty engine, the latest in a string of recalls that have raised doubts over whether the automaker can maintain quality standards amid booming sales.
Toyota is recalling 860,000 vehicles worldwide, including in Australia, due to problems with their suspension.

The vehicles affected are Tundra utes and Sequoia, Landcruiser Prado and 4Runner/Hilux Surf SUVs built between May 2001 and December 2003, according to the BBC.

The recalled vehicles are mostly in the United States, though 14,000 are in Australia.

Toyota recalls Prius cars over steering problem

Toyota is recalling more than 2,500 Prius vehicles in Australia due to a problem that could lead to steering loss.

The company says when a big force is applied under certain conditions, the steering shaft may become loose or develop a crack.

They've also sold a hell of a lot more vehicles than both.... and they're a hell of a lot more reliable than either brand.

Your right for 4cyl Camry and Corolla. A lot of people go "oh I just want a good reliable car to get from A-B" , they know the Corolla or 4cyl camry won't cost them a lot and will last a fair while.

People generally know the larger cars are going to cost more in fuel. What they also know however is if they buy a falcom/commo then its going to be "rugged" and it is going to be cheap to fix as far as parts ect are concerned.

Look at the 380. Its got the best warranty around however people are still not buying it. They think to themselves "I don't know anything about the 380".

I imagine it will be much the same for the Aurion/Avalon - Toyota buyers will just avoid it and stick to "what they know" and the falcon/commo brigade won't be particularly interested since its unlikely to be significantly better and does not have any "street cred". If you look back to when toyota had larger RWD cars like the Cressida and Crown these were not big sellers since people saw them as liabilities.

                  i disagree

the falcon and como are mainly bought as fleet cars, fleet buyers like them cause they are good stable cars from good stable companys

fleet buyers are giving the 380 a miss because they are worried about buying a car from a company that may not exist when it comes time to sell

what car company in australia says stability more than toyota?

                    Totally correct.
Fleet buyers look at three main points : Buy costs , running costs and resale value. Not much else matters.
The cars themselves don't really matter in the same way they would to an enthusiast.
The 380 might be as good as the Commodore but who wants to risk buying perhaps hundreds of cars ( which a rental company like AVIS for example would periodically do ) from a company which may not be here in five years time?
The resale value will be laughable and the fleet buyer most likely unemployed.

                    Cheers , Pete.

If anything, I think there are too many different types of cars on the market? That seems to be the problem in trying to sell your 380's and Aurions, etc out there when there are so many choices these days available.

This says two or even more things, 1. Toyota sell more cars than any other car company. 2. Toyota don't mind fixing things where is other car companies would rather not acknowledge the problem exists.

fleet sales is where its at. remember we here at pf, are a minority, previous threads listed percentages of fleet sales in the 80-85% range for the cars we are talking about.

it toyota can grab a share of this market the car will be a success ( the only reason mitsu havent is because of the public perception of anything built with the 3 diamonds and the fucked resale)

now barring the avalon, toyotas resale is generally quite excellent, therefore i think fleet businesses may consider this aurion as an alternative.

I think that inclusion of a manual option would have a positive effect on the Aurion's perception inversely proportional to the percentage of manual sales they'd get if they introduced one.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

I am waiting to see how much it weighs, the 335Nm of torque isn't much compared to the falcon, but it is on par with the holdens (although it arrives much, much later). I doubt they will have the 'get up and go' of the other two unless they weigh in about 2-300kg lighter or have stupid gearing.
