Does this mean with some mods you could replace an SMG E36 M3 gearbox for a Supra one?
Cal.

No, not easily anyway. The bellhousing is integrated into the gearbox casing so you can't mix'n'match parts to make stuff fit other stuff, and I'd put money on the selector mechanism being in a total different position.

Confirmed, M3 is speced 500nm and Supra 450nm
OK, some guy posted it on a forum somewhere so it must be true.
Oh for a 3S the other option is the Altezza 6-speed (J160 I think it is), they're supposed to be a decent bit of gear. Same box as the S15, MX5 and S2000 apparently.
I believe it's the same gearset but not the same box as the casing differ I think... or it might just be the bell housings. Anyway is MX-5 guise they seem to be good for around 350rwhp (turbo so a fair chunk of torque).

Oh the irony.
The M3 engine offers ... an impressive max. torque of 320 Nm, which is virtually all the time present in the range from 3600 to 5900 rpm. With it's torque value, the M3 six-cylinder outperforms sports car motors like those of the Porsche Carrera or Honda NSX (Remark by me: Acura Products are still designated as Honda in Germany) . [...] Keep in mind: The M3 has NO turbocharger."

Teh M3 can suck my 363Nm
The liquid hydrogen turbopump is slightly larger than an automobile engine (weighing approximately 700 lb) and produces nearly 70,000 hp (52.2 MW).
found some more stuff on same 30+ page thread, this says M3 is rated 30nm less than supra, but are not E.T. limited to 12's :p
The number in the tranny designation for Getrag AND ZF transmissions is their torque ratings in Newton Meters (Nm). Thus, the 420G that comes in the E46 M3 (rated to 420Nm or approximately 315ft/lbs)
I want to see a race between a S12, Supra, GT-R, handivan, Supercrown, Cathay or whatever edo's got that's moves, go-kart, M3 Vs my 700T series Shinkansen! And anyone else who wants to prove their manhood! I call out Fatboy to bring his Thomas the tank engine too.
So cut the bullshit, I name the place: anywhere parallel to a standard guage track, time: ? and let's get it over with! :D

Now we need to find a 12 lane drag strip.
