I expect my car to have the arse thrashed out of it. Better that they do it and find the problems than I do it and fark something up. That's also why I'm fairly picky on using no bullshit mechanics that actually have half a brain.
Ohh and quit your whinging it's only 40k's and it's only an MX-5. I'm sure the manager would be fair up the lackies to do real charge out work than to be buggering around trying to find a warranty fault so I'm sure they were only driving it as much as they had to.

a turbo mx5 would be okay to have a thrash in.. i guess.. but not like a V* commodore or something like that.. (speaking in terms of thrashing from an apprentice point of view) its unlikely they would be revelling about how balanced and composed the mx5 is..This is a post i wrote by mistake, which is nice...

Good idea BUT if they have it idling in the shop, fuel economy goes out the window. Try resetting your trip computer and moving a couple of meters. Then sit there and watch l/100km go up and up.Originally posted by MotorsportladyReminds me of the first 'service' It had after I bought my Z3 2.8L............I bought it knowing it had a worn clutch (which I am still babying*mostly
* 8 months later)
I reset the economy and average speed in the cruise control just as I got out of the car to leave it....It did appear to have a electrical generating problem as the head lights would drastically dip when a/c came on at night.......they changed the A/C pully first then installed a new Alternator they had the vehicle for almost two weeks.......
It came back with economy on 20litres/100km. (lots of full noise acceleration to get it to do that) and I could feel the difference in the grip of the clutch! *I pointed it out to one of the service controllers* and have not seen it come back at this economy since. But I have to say they do look after us...any issues and you're phoned immediately....and car always comes back immaculate!
Average speed likewise won't really tell you much either since even though they might give it a fang, the time spent sitting still idling would easily cancel out the high speed.

I have done this to try and mimic result It takes a long time!.....but as they were testing out a problem that predominately showed at night and ended up replacing alternator. I would imagine fair few rev's involved anyway to check charge levels even in workshop.......it was the appreciable drop in clutch clamp that I disliked! I know myself, every time I drop the clutch against the odd Blue ST-i (I meet/beat one occasionally on the way to work) I can feel the wear I have caused. Z3 definately faster off the lights!:DOriginally posted by ShonkyGood idea BUT if they have it idling in the shop, fuel economy goes out the window. I realise this but I constantly use this function myself and reset it often, more from an interest point of view(just the navigator in me)Originally posted by ShonkyAverage speed likewise won't really tell you much either since even though they might give it a fang, the time spent sitting still idling would easily cancel out the high speed.

I love a lady that meets & beats on the way to work..Originally posted by MotorsportladyI meet/beat one occasionally on the way to work)
I tend to just drop the boost if I'm leaving my car somewhere. Assume they'll do the worst, and you can only be pleasantly surprised (or none the wiser).

If the car has been sitting the carpark all day, its going to need more than 100m to get the oil up to temp so you can change it properly.Originally posted by 4formeFor an oil & filter change.
100 mtr max.
From the parking bay to the service bay and back.
No need to check anything on road.
