And i'd also never own another WRX (well anything older than current).

Everything is so much smaller / weaker than the equivalent Nissan :D

On this topic, we bought a Mirage on the weekend... Head overruled heart and it turns out it was for the better.

95000ks, manual, stock as a rock. Put a CD player in it already and a set of rear speakers (so now it has 4 woot), gave it a good polish and I'll throw a set of alloys on it or something and be done. Already done about 200k's and only used 1/4 tank, out of a 45L tank.

Ride is really comfy yet handling is quite tight, no dash rattles or squeaks or anything... it's great!
      I got nothing

I reckon most (if not all) late model/late 90's Jap econobox would be exactly like that Vinny.

Just a matter of finding one for given budget.

but congrats on the GF's purchase, bet she is glad she went that way now

I'm not saying it wasn't satisfying to own and drive, I still say it is one of the best cars I’ve ever owned, was such a nimble & quick little thing…. Realistically it’s just getting a little long in the tooth now & would require the attention that I don’t have time to give it if used at a daily driver…. I’m just glad to have the space and money invested back.... Cant say the same for time though.

I came to a realisation on the weekend that I’d rather spend my weekends going places / working on the house than being constantly stuck in the garage working on a hugely depreciating asset….. Put it on the market on Monday morning and was sold by Tuesday afternoon .

Buying the car back at the time seemed like a good idea, pity the engine took 6-onths to arrive from the UK.

But yes I should have something that will satisfy me much more parked in the garage by the end of the weekend – and its not even broken :D

I hear you there man. This race car has taken me most of the year to build. After Phillip Island next weekend I'm going to the beach. No way I'm spending the summer at QR. Probably won't turn a wheel until March.

                Everyone is getting old!

Thats why the skyline is staying stock and going to mechanics for things like timing belts and water pumps that I would have done myself previously.

Prefer to drive the thing on the weekends instead of getting a crook back by leaning over it all day.

I thought the Seat was going to be a hugely appreciating asset though?

I'm starting to think along your lines too jon (and vince)

Looking at a replacement for the AX, and I can afford a nice Xsara VTS - but i'm wondering if i should just go a mirage.

Driven a mates and it felt fine.

                          What do you guys reckon?

Really a hard call Ken, it really depends on how much you depend on your car. My situation is I & my Mrs work M – F in the city and am a 10 min walk to a train station (that will take me to town in around 20mins)…. The only time I ‘really’ need a car is the weekend…. So I can afford a little downtime.

Now I’ve sold the Seat the WRX will be on the market very soon – not looking forward to it actually with all the wankers I expect to come and see it, but if I want to sell it I’ll have to put up with it.

Should leave me with my new (well new to me) Lexus (2 owner from new, full Lexus service history, 100,000km on clock & I’ve known the owner of the car for the last 10 years – it’s a good one) for the Mrs to do the shopping on the weekend, Skyline for me so I can get my fix of fast car (without a huge $ outlay) and an 88 model corolla Seca I picked up a few weeks ago for a steel of $500 as the general runabout hack to do the bunnings trips & to the train station when its raining (Should only cost me rego and basic 3rd party a year maybe 1k all up inc servicing).

Bit excessive having 3 road going cars (not counting the ET, but that’s not exactly something I’d nip down to the shops in to pikup a litre of milk in) but I hope it will work out well for us.

I’d just look at what you really need a car for and how reliable you need it to be and work from there, I wish I’d taken this advice a year ago.

Ken. I bought one 2 weeks ago as well and quite honestly, I like it a lot. Mine has no power steer so I don't know how that effects the feel but I like it. It lets me know whats happening. I just bumped the timing up to 7deg and put in a K&N panel filter in the standard airbox and it feels heaps better. Add to that 98 octane fuel and it almost gets rid of that flatspot they all have just off cruise and under medium acceleration just off idle.

Have a drive of mine if you like next time we go riding.
