Same questions as before - would it be possible to work this role as a FIFO from Sydney? Roughly what bracket salary is on offer?

Salary will vary depending on skills/experience etc. It is by no means a huge salary (compared with other mining professions etc), but is definitely a good start in the mining industry, or maybe just a change from what you have been doing. You are best off to call the number in the ad. Simon is very approachable and will answer any questions you have.

The roster depends on which client you are working for at the time.

But generally 2/1s on our current rosters. Sometimes the shifts are longer for remote work etc.

I fly in/out from Brisbane to the NT. Again the fly in/out thing depends on your location and of course the jobs location. For the right applicant I doubt being interstate would be an issue.

So, just curious, these type of jobs at mines where you FIFO, does the company pay for this? Where do you live during the time you are there - do you just rent a place and who pays for that? There was a 60 Minutes segment (quality journalism, I know!)a while back where fibro shacks that were barely suitable for a dog were renting for $500 a week.

I can't speak for all FIFO jobs, and obviously some contractor companies would be different, but all our flights are paid for us. The sites we work at vary from large minesites, where accommodation is in ensuited 'dongas', to remote exploration sites where we either drag a caravan along or roll out a swag.

Admittedly I did my FIFO overseas (Australia to Mali), but the company paid for flights and accommodation.

I was in dysart a few weeks back, taking a stroll through town whilst waiting on the rig to be ready for us...Local real estate had a fibro shack overgrown with shit and generally not suitable for a coon from blue river to live there, and it was 650k. Normal shitty town block.

cracka some of those shacks are in areas that the abos have claimed land rights etc and can not be built on anymore. they can and do get rented out in certain locations for big money, 1 sparkie that i worked with done some mining shit in a remote part of WA, the rent the company was paying was like $800 a week and it was utter crap. that price would be 15 years ago now.

As for the fly in fly out mine jobs, accommodation is provided as well as food, but be aware that some mobs will only fly from certain places, ie in WA that could be perth, then you make your way from perth to home.
