how much faster / slower are the 07 cars compared to the V10 era?

I think it was mentioned that Kimis best 1.25.2 lap was about 1 sec slower than schumis alltime record.

I believe the speed difference is due to a lack of tyre war in 07 (control Bridgie).

Awesome footage though - lets hope this will be the only footage of this type though.

Gives a good idea of how stiff their chassis are- that thing didn't buckle a bit after doing a 4ft high jump (would hate to see a vn after that lol)

Having seen a few still pics of the crash, it could easily have crushed is head (I wonder how an F1 helment stands against 700kh). The cars side came within about 3inches from Wurz's face!

I watched the Ch10 coverage and the commentary. aaragh it was appalling. Woods, can't believe that guy watches so much motorsport and is still clueless.

I'm pretty sure there faster on a couple of tracks as there mid corner speed is up on the V10 days. Can't recall which ones though.

more due to the regulations regarding downforce and rubber, i.e. when they went to v8's although they lost power with the rules regarding downforce that year, they gained downforce, and due to the tyre war they also gained grip.

personally i wish they were running 1200hp v12's with no traction control.

I'm with you Gav. Watched a bit and couldn't believe the in-car camera with overlay stuff. The T/C light was on in every corner. What do they do nowadays? Stand on the throttle and flick some switches? They might as well be driving automatics which are on rails and speed limited.

I agree about TC, some of the places that it was shuddering and stuttering were just plain weird. Full blast in top gear? WTF? I think there may be some stuff going on that we fail to apreciate..

To make things worse I was there too. Bloody dull more so when you are there. Support races were more interesting, at least there was some overtaking.

Smaller v8 capacity
19000rpm rev limit

These three factors would have a massive bearing on lap speed!

Not really.

Fastest race lap 2005: 1.25.068 (V10's)
Fastest race lap 2006: 1.26.045 (Unrestricted V8's)
Fastest race lap 2007: 1.25.235 (restricted V8's)

Tyres are the things that are making the cars slow this year. Preseason testing put the tyres at some circuits to be 2-3 seconds SLOWER than last years. The engines already have more power than when these started unrestricted last year.
