Fair comment, I dunno whatever is need to allow them to pass more. Would a blindfold for Colin Bond be a better idea?Originally posted by EfiOzI hear this idea a lot and I still, for the life of me, can't figure out how it would work.
Anyone who has ever driven an undertyred/low grip/high powered car will tell you that it severely limits you to a single line around a track. If you can only drive on one line, then how do you pass?
I definitely think they need to bring back the A/B Pillar rule, makes it far more cut in dry as to whether you can pull off a pass or not.

I cant believe Ive missed this thread.
Few things:
1.The argument that V8Supercars is bad because it sucks all the sponsorship $ out of other motorsport is bullshit. Simply, there really are no other forms of motorsport that would vaguely interest current V8 sponsors. Abolish the series & those sponsors will head to some version of football not ARC/production cars or anything else.
2. There is yet to be any viable, successful series that lasts any reasonable amount of time that requires a number of road cars to be built to homologate them. That costs manufacturers far far more than building a few race cars that dont need to pass any road car regs.
3. As has been pointed out, less grip does not mean more spectacular...it means slower. Smooth will always be faster no matter if you have 28 foot wide mega slicks or retreads.
4. Basing parts on production components is bullshit, all you get is shit breaking because it was designed to do an entirely different job. Watching cars busted on the side of the track isnt exciting.
5. Why are all you guys so hung up on the technology & the fact that these cars are not related to the road cars they bare a vague resemblance to? They dont pretend to be, you are not being lied to or conned, they are racing cars built to regulations that have nothing to do with the road cars.
6. Aussie racing cars might cost $40k to buy but they will cost you significantly more than that to run a national series...particularly one that supports the V8s. The racing is good & close...they bear no relationship to the cars that they bear a vague resemblance to...so they are like baby V8supercars really arent they? Particulaly now that most are commodores & falcons. Costs are probably divided by 10 compared to the main game. I cant see how you could like the Aussie racing cars, yet hate V8supercars...is it because you can dream that one day you will be able to afford to race the Aussie cars, but you know you will never run V8s? Hot tip...its bloody unlikely that any of us would be able to justify the expense of either.
7. Any racing that has to start various classes in the field at different times is just bloody pox. Its rigged, its not close racing, its faster cars going past slower ones...with the slower ones really having no chance.

But they do. that is my problem with the whole thing. The whole thing is promoted on the basis of them being good ol aussie v8's like we have (apparently) always loved and driven. They draw on the Bathurst 500 pre-history and count the xy falcon and xu1 torana wins among the heritage of this sheltered workshop of a series. OK... so it is a specific forumula, and they use the most basic of production line components that would go to a full completed production car, but please, series promoters, spare us from this bullsh1t about how much work it takes to modify a production car to be a v8 super taxi - show me a single car on the v8 grid that rolled out of ford of Holden under its own power. Back in the mists of time it all started out with completed factory line production cars racing each other on the basis of merit - but along the line it de-evolved into a structured formula to suit local lowest common denominators, tv marketing and thus advertisers/sponsors - it is most clearly no longer about the make and model of cars or about the racing itself. I like the models of cars, and proper racing.... thats why I also immensely enjoyed the aussie racers at bathurst - if you are going to have an artificially contrived forumla that purports to be about racing, then why not have one with exciting racing, not a hi-speed funeral procession.Originally posted by edoI cant believe Ive missed this thread.

And, more importantly, when do we want it?Originally posted by EfiOzSo what do we want then?Originally posted by klampykixxas an example, an elephant pushes over a tree to eat the fresh leaves at the top, but a human isnt allowed to build a machine that makes a car so he can drive around to places quicker?
