OK, GPS are here, getting packed and ready to shipped.
Here are some instructions to get you up and running quickly.
DO THIS FIRST BEFORE A TRACK DAY
1. Charge the GPS first. You can use any old USB charger to do this from a powerpoint. Note: You will get a solid red charging light when charging and the light will go out when it is fully charged. When the GPS battery is running low you will see a flashing red light, this is the time to charge it again.
2. Once charged go outside turn the unit on. Touch and hold power switch. Then with a pin hit the reset button (this is next the USB connector). This will force the GPS to do an cold boot and almanac update. This will take up to 15 min to complete. You only need to do this once.
SETTING UP RACECHRONO
3. Turn GPS on and pair with phone. For pairing password use '0000'. Important make sure you allow 'touchGPS' to automatically make connections to your phone.
4. Run Racechrono.
Goto Settings
--> GPS Reciever: Select Bluetooth GPS
----->GPS Type: Bluetooth Serial GPS
----->GPS Device: touchGPS
----->GPS Baudrate: 38400 Baud ** Important for 5Hz logging
5. Goto Track profiles and download all the tracks you will be attending. This is easier than doing it youself.
AT THE TRACK
6. Turn on GPS, Securely position on dash make sure the top is unobstructed. I recommend to thick peices for velcro from a hobby shop (ask your wives/girlfriends)
7. Start up Racechrono. Select:
----New Session
----Session Title: XXXXXXX
----Session Type: Lap Timing
----Track: Your Track ie Wakefield
----Driver: Your Name
Hit Start.
Then Switch to Live Timer.
You should now see a screen that shows, best lap, previous lap and current. Once you pass the start finish line it should start timing.
That's it.
When you're finished for the day (or even during) you can analyse laps, with graphs etc. Look at best/worse laps, delete rubbish laps like out and in laps etc.
Things to look out for.
Before you go out on the track check that the GPS is on (Flashing BT light, blue) and Racechrono is actually logging ie not in paused state! The GPS will auto power down when idle so it's important to check everything before you go out. When you come in PAUSE your session, if you don't the phone will continue logging to memory and create a huge file. Next time you go out restart Racechrono and just RESUME your session. It will take no more than 30 secs to restart. I suggest you do this *BEFORE* putting on you helmet, gloves etc.
