    Production Sports Car Racing

As always Phillip Island drawing big fields.

Sports Cars? Why don't they just call it GT Cars and be done with it. Nick Cancian who won and set the fastest time at the Winton 300 a few weekends ago is pretty much mid pack in the Cue pack.

    GT cars are sportscars.
If a car isn't fast enough, well welcome to motorsport. (keep in mind that the winton 300 sort of excludes sports cars in the rules!)
The field looks great and has some fantastic machinery in it.

12 hr. The update the car has taken longer than we would have liked.

The lotus's are fast honda engines with large superchargers make them a lot faster than factory trim.

Lotus HPE are locally homologated 'Honda powered Elise'- 10 or so were made- with a lightly supercharged K20 Honda engine.
The pole sitting car would have a pretty good power to weight ratio and is well steered.

yes. But it's chequebook racing, deep pockets only need apply. There are limited Cams events for low budget sports cars.

I don't know if it is or not checkbook racing - Isn't all motorsport checkbook racing?

I can tell you for sure that it is great to watch with that level of car at state series rounds.

I know how the lotus's got a non original engine in them.. Not sure that it was a good idea though.

^. Too true. It's just that the opportunities for entry level sports car racing is limited with the state of prod sports in NSW.

Other than MX5's, are there many entry level sports cars around who want to race though? I suspect it would be a bit like Group SC in historics, someone would come along with a big dollar Porsche and clean up.

Or a little dollar Datsun, and run in top ten in a 40+ car field.
Historics are a bit limited in freedoms, and that can make it very satisfying on a bang for buck basis.

The GT and current Proddie Spirts are much bigger entry level dollar cars, if you need to play up the front end, but run midpack, it's very resonable price, even in an old outdated car, like a Datsun 280ZX-SL (Super Liteweight model, now? )

There's a 280Z running the stocko type fuel injection inline 6, on 6x14" rims, in Sc, weighbridge at EC has it at 980 kgs, with full steel body full interior, and the big USA bumpers, sheesh!
if you get this far after reading the above, good on you!

There are a number of cheapish (yeah nothing's cheap but it's all relative) cars you can run, 200/300/r35 nissans, Zeds, rx7s, mx5s. But if there are not enough and 95% of the field are Euro high end cars doing 100km more than you down the straight...I can imagine it would be off putting.
