Had beers with my mate last night who spoke to Dan after the race.
feedback is the car is an absolute cracker and he’s loving it. Working on getting it really solid under heavy brake applications so he can get that late braking going again.

If anything Campese was a great door opener in Europe, between the contacts, and foot into a decent management team etc Money would help, but more than anything you need to find the right people to give the money too!

I remember reading about someone who bankrolled Barrichello early in his career in exchange for 25% of future earnings - it was a lifetime contract, so it paid off pretty well.

Worked out better for his ex-wife who left him after he finished with F1.

Correct, although he was subsequently represented by the Campese Management Group for a while too.

I wonder if Webber is kicking in for Piastri on a future earnings type deal?

AFAIK that’s how pretty much all funding deals work
in Motorsport. You don’t get $$$$ for nothing, it all has something tied to it, usually a ‘we get xx% for xx years’ type deal. The romantic idea that the general public have that drivers just get millions thrown at them to just yolo and drive race cars with nothing tied to it seems pretty rare, unless you come from family/business money.

I do remember for Mitch Evans they effectively turned him into a company which you could buy the equivalent of shares in, kind of crowd funding his Motorsport career.

I also remember having a chat with Ian Dyk’s father about the sorts of funding required at Wakefield about 20 years ago. He was just a 16 year old getting started and would take every second Thursday off school to practice (effectively school sport) and we were down there for an open day. Conversation turned to money and basically he said that to just do a season of formula Ford in an uncompetitive car you were looking at minimum 250k and if you wanted to be competitive then it was in the 500k-1m range. Was a real holy fuck moment which underlined just how much money you need to bring to the table to make it in open wheelers and why as cunty as guys like Marko are why every up and coming driver would kill to get a spot in these programs.

I'm going to guess there was more to Rubens then just end of F1 career. Wasn't like he was suddenly broke.

                              Yeah but that wasn't financial.

The internet suggests he is still well off and his divorce wasn't until 2019?
