Heart says Dan/Hammo, but they both benefited hugely from their track position when the SC came out & got lucky.

Alonso didn't, and still made it work. He also did a mammoth last stint. Best in the business by a long shot - he's always up there.

Yeah watching him squirm on so many corner exists in those last few laps to defend from Hamilton was pretty awesome. He is doing Ferrari such a service atm making the car look so much better than it really is.

As much as I go for Lewis, he got lucky with the s/c and with Vettel spinning in front of him.

Dan get used a mega tyre advantage to nail both guys, but still drove damn well.

Alonso, just keeps being Alonso. He is the terminator, just keeps going.

I think so. It was a very deserving podium but Hamilton had his first lap mistake and Dan did lose some places at the start. All drove exceptionally well through the race but Alonso was the only one who was completely flawless.

It was Jones' load in his eye.

Fucking nothing can be said apart from a top race to end the first half of the season.

                Yep, Alonso.

That safety car didn't define the podium, it was the quick passes that Danny Ric, Alonso and Hamilton managed that got them there.
                dunno about that!
alot easier to not have to chase down a Mercedes that was already dissapearing into the distance. He had a 10.5sec lead over second place by the 8th lap! While Smiley was stuck in 6th unable to pass Button who is pretty handy in the wet, and therefore losing 2sec a lap to Rosberg. I think he jumped Button in that SC pitstop too - is that right? I remember them dicing on track afterwards, but i think it was Button on inters trying to pass Dan on the correct tyre choice of slicks...
And RBR getting the break on the lap 8 crash was the reason they could run the 3 stop strategy while Alonso had to try and go long on two stops to get track position back. Same for Hamilton who was right on Rosberg's heels after the SC. Rosberg tried the 3 stop thing from the same kind of place after the SC and it left him behind. So the Lap 8 crash was the reason Alonso and Hamilton were sitting ducks on ~30 lap old tyres at the end after running the compromised strategey, while the lap 8 crash gifted RBR the track position to run the optimum strategy instead of the leaders. It totally defined the race.

Dan drove smarter than the rest and made his tires last as they should. yes he lucked out on the first safety car, but the second pit was less than ideal. Unlike Ham and vettel he didn't spin under pressure. He also delivered many overtakes for position unlike others who got stuck behind a TR for a large portion of the race, or not being able to dispose of their team mate on better rubber.

Alonso also made his tires work to his strategy. The same sort of ballsy move he pulled out last race which nearly lead to him running out of fuel. He is gambling and it is paying off, going for all or nothing! You have to respect that.

Drive of the day for me goes to Dan. Although Alonso drove flawlessly he did one less pit stop and was able to hold people off on a relatively hard track to overtake. Dan on the other hand pitted to 4th (was it) with 13 laps to go and drove like a mad man to get past Hamilton. With a very ballsy attempt on the out side that failed, and then kept pushing till he got past.

Alonso and Dan the clear stand outs of the race.

                      Yeah, but no.

Alonso in a slower car than Rosberg didn't pit for the first safety car and made his race work. Just didn't spend half his race not being able to dispose of a TR or his team mate (which Alonso did overtake). Vettel was lucky to finish the race at all with the spin he did.

Massa who was also gifted the safety car finished 30 secs behind Dan with the same opportunities....

Yes the safety car helped, Dan was lucky to exploit it, but he did just that, he took the race by the horns and earned the win. Who knows what strategy he would have been on if it was not deployed could have been on a 2 stop etc. Alonso despite missing the SC did the same thing and tried something different to the leaders.

Well if you don't count missing the corner (which is a potential drive-thru offence) on lap 63 sure flawless but flawless isn't what wins races or we would be giving the back markers driver of the day for being consistently last.

Dan still had to pass 2 WC's to win, it wasn't handed to him so my driver of the day :knock:

It's not a case of credit where credit is due for seizing an opportunity others missed due to indecision. The front four didn't get the chance to pit due to the timing of the SC. It was just luck.
Can't recall the exact detail but I think that Dan was the first to have the opportunity to pit on the safety car and would only have had a second or two to decide. Easier for the rest, they just followed his lead. We don't know what RB had planned for pit stops, it could have been something completely different for Dan so there are possible considerations like that which we know nothing about.

It's easy to sit back after the event and say something was obvious but Dan has a history of good impulse like decision making so I'd prefer to suggest that this decision was another one of those.

Button was first then Dan. Dan jumped Button in the stop.
