    V8 Supercar discussion thread

So it kicks off tomorrow - my money is on a pretty determined Lowndes to battle it out with the guy who "replaced" him - the Giz.

Lowndes 2016 Series Champ. You read it here first...
The older i get, the better i was...

I'm just hoping Volvo have a more reliable car this year. McLaughlin finally has a solid team mate so now we should see both cars in the top ten.
Sutherland Shires #1 Escort? is that like being the 4th best prostitute in Kazahkstan?

            Giz will smash 'em all.

SVG champ. Lowndes top three. Jdub may not even be top 5.

Interesting to see how Moff goes.

^^ this. Whincup will struggle to match his pace. I predict a Prost/Senna type of relationship bust up within the first few rounds, team will have a hard time managing the egos.

The only possible challengers would be Prodrive. I wonder if the Falcon aero advantage will be decisive as it was at key times last year... Mostert's maturity will be tested too. He has the pace but the lack of experience is sometimes telling in key moments.

Amazing how quickly everyone is to write off JW- I'm tipping him to win it

You've got to remember Giz has been driving a 888 car for the last 3 years with TEKNO. They share base data. It's not such a big jump in quality as some expect.

It will be interesting to see how much more speed he can find - if any - given the only difference is really engineering expertise and the budget.

And a hell of a lot more media and promotional work which we know he isn't that big on

I don't see the giz performing his best in the much more corporate 888, yeah of late whingecup has gotten away with making his own calls over the team but doubt the giz will be given that luxury by Roland.

If you think any 888 customer gets any other the spring/shock rates and tweaks they do.. you are nuts

They said today Teckno were still on older versions of certain parts, so there will be a slight advantage coming to 888 but I still don't think it will see SVG miraculously win everything in sight. Whilst I believe SVG has much better natural talent the sheer determination and sole focus from Whincup won't be easily beaten.

Essentially spot on. We all know SVG can drive, but he hasn't stepped into a 2015 Mercedes F1.

I work for TEKNO, I could tell you exactly what they do and don't get But you're right. Base data. No driver data for that matter.

Like we saw today, some of the extensive race testing miles other teams have done last year (re: Penske) are now starting to pay off. Even a sliver of data is invaluable.
