Soft tyres brought that race alive! Previous years on hard tyres were boring as.

Soft tyres has been a worthy experiment.

I think everyone realised they had to nurse the tyres the whole race by then.

And GRM are now saying that if Herne can't race then they'll pull their wildcard entry. At a guess the funding is coming from Herne so makes sense.

Dont know much about Herne-has ever raced at Bathurst in anything? He doesn't appear to have any Supercars/2/3 experience which doesn't help his cause even though he races in TA2.

Ive always been a big GRM fan, but for a company with such experience, this seems like a big oversight to make, doesnt it?

There is a dispensation process, and by announcing the entry before the process was approved they forced a little pressure on the decision makers to approve Herne. (Of course, it comes with a side effect of looking a little silly, but I think the larger of the PR hit goes to Herne rather than GRM.)

Ah ok, that makes slightly more sense, but still seems like a bit of an own goal.

Can they put somebody else in the seat if they're suitably credentialed?

They can, but as had been said before, I would suggest the majority of the budget is coming from Herne to run the car.

Yeah the only reason they picked him was the bags of cash that came with him.

I had a read of the Speedcafe comments (bad idea I know). The kid has raced at Bathurst before but only in a TA2 car. Hasn’t raced any Super3 or Super2 car before. Finished 5th in the TA2 series, which is good but if you wanna step up to Bathurst I think you need a bit more than that. Gotta say I think Motorsport Australia’s choice was right here.

Plenty of people have gone direct to Bathurst in their time.
