Enjoyed the latest ep of Below the Bonnet. Ex Holden PR Gerald McDornan telling how he socked Skaife in a bar in Austin and other drunken shenanigans that went down at the annual Holden drivers party. Some good yarns there lol

Thats a massive gap. Ah well, can't be helped I suppose!

Unrelated, Jack Perkins has done a cool set of videos showing differences between 3 separate generations of Supercar. Great to see all the little details and evolution between them all. And how shit are the panel gaps on the VF?!

Sad news about the calendar changes, but nothing that can be done, so I just hope the rejigged races go ahead.

I think the Sydney night race is no longer happening though?

Fingers crossed that covid numbers drop enough to allow fans at Bathurst, at the very least

If they can have fans, it means I can also attend as Media......hopefully.
Sydney Night Race is contractually obligated to NSW Govt - it was always going to happen.

With the way things are going I wouldn't expect all of the races to go ahead. I wouldn't be surprised if the Sydney race is a closed door race, if it even goes ahead. I know it's contractually obligated but I'd imagine a health emergency lockdown would overide that. Escpecially since it would be the NSW Govt canning it not Supercars.

So Ive been checking in on this thread for the past few days, expecting to see some discussion about what has been going on in regard to Bathurst, and am surprised nothing has been said, given there are some PF members who are in the know about most things V8SC.

So what is everybody's thoughts on what is playing out over the past week or so?

Supercars management announce 2 weeks ago that the Bathurst 1000 date has to be moved to early Nov, in order to give it the best chance of having a meaningful crowd this year, and all seems well, but then news reports come out this week saying that Challenge Bathurst management are refusing to allow Supercars to hold the 1000 on the announced date, as it falls 2 weeks before Challenge Bathurst, and therefor breaches a clause in their contract that states that there must be no other events held with the 2 weeks beforehand, and that they are going to dig their heels in and demand the 1000 is held at another date, being either the last weekend of October, (which Supercars say is unworkable, due to the Philip Island race being held the prior weekend and there not being enough time to move all the teams and set up before cars hit the track on the Thursday)

Then it comes out that Challenge Bathurst has said that there will be no compromise on the dates, and that they will be enforcing their contract clauses, thus effectively making the date for the 1000 non workable.

Following the above announcement, Peter Adderton offers to sponsor Challenge Bathurst, in exchange for making it a free events to help grow grass roots level motorsport in Australia, and for C.B to allow Supercars to hold their event on the first weekend of November. Apparently his offer was declined and C.B are sticking to their guns.

Then the local Council are asked if they have confirmed that the date announced for the 1000 was agreed by them, and they have said it wasnt.

Cue lots of stories and many comments on Speedcafe from various people, some claiming that C.B is being unnecessarily confrontational, especially given the Covid issues happening right now, and that C/B's stance is nothing more that trying to flex on the Supercars Management, and then we have others claiming that its great to see Supecars put in their place, and that they cant expect things to go their way all the time etc etc

So PF wise men, what the hell is going on? Are we really going to see the 1000 cancelled due to the perceived conflict of the date being 2 weeks beforehand bizzo????

Disclaimer: I am involved with CB - but as a Supplier of service only, so do not have any input into how the event is run or managed.

IMHO There will be a compromise agreed to between BRC, CB and Supercars to run the 1000 on the weekend before and everyone will put on a smile and play happy families.
I'm guessing it will be sorted before end of September.

Assuming any of it goes ahead because of the dickheads in NSW who cannot stay the fuck home instead of attending superspreader parties, family gatherings, whatever.

Glad to hear at least somebody say that things will be sorted out within a few weeks.

Still, a terrible look for all concerned

I understand CB's viewpoint here. I wouldn't like to be holding an event a week after the 1000. It leaves very little time for the facility stuff to happen but also a lot of risk if there is a covid case.

If I was CB, I'd offer a date swap with Supercars to see how serious they are - would they accept running the 1000 a week after CB? That would transfer all the risk and headaches with setup to Supercars.

Supercars have screwed plenty of other events with dates and the like, so absolutely zero sympathy for them.

The Adderton offer is half genius (the "I'm a good bloke, I tried to help CB" aspect), half stupid (the grass roots part). Trying to run a grass roots event at a circuit that is already full whilst claiming he didn't know how big grass roots is makes him look ignorant.

The thing is, what's the CB incentive to accept the Adderton sponsorship? Sure, it's good for the competitors, but they aren't short of entries, it doesn't help the organisers bottom line, and removes the ability for them to get a sponsor for the event (if they were looking for one).

                          Watching this with interest.

There is precisely zero benefit from linking up with Adderton. CB has always had sponsors for both Sprint and Regularity (all competitors are required to run the sponsor windscreen banner).
