Well the lack of a proper FTA deal is hurting the sport.

Definitely need the ad free HD option given.

Was interesting to see the difference in attendance between the V8 round and WTAC at EC.
Really does illustrate just how far V8's have dropped with live attendance!

Of course they'll again claim record numbers at Newcastle at the end of the year.
But will fail to mention a very large portion of the ticket purchases will be for the concerts!
Without the concerts these street events would get SFA attendance.

Wonder if Murdoch and Co did the dodgy with ten to get the rights due to being in debt to Murdoch. They took over the F1 rights due to how far behind payments to FOM ten was, also I get that ten got themselves in debt but I'm pretty sure that was the play by the Murdochs in the first place and glad CBS got ten in the end.

I did read the interesting comment that the deal was "the best they could get at the time with everything going on"

Wonder if 7 thought they could get it cheap because of the owed money, then they went to fox who paid just enough to get it.

Nobody else chucked a bid in besides 10, as I recall.

The Fox deal saved the catagory's arse, as most teams were hemorrhaging money bigtime. They all get a nice cut of the $241mil Fox deal.

7west also were series sponsors with some of their other companies, CAT/Coates Hire is all I can remember now but there was one or two others as well I think. Pretty sure the last deal with 7 was cheaper but they were to split ad revenue or something along those lines, don't know if they played silly buggers and sold cheap ads to themselves as they ran a lot of ads for those 7west companies during the v8s. I also just checked and noticed Coats are still series sponsors but probably part contra deal for equipment hire and a tent with piss for clients around Australia :w:

In the short term the money from the Fox deal helped the teams out and thats good for short term but long term its got to be FTA and or streaming. FTA brings the eyes on the sport but the days of the mega million deals are over. Most people I know are happy to pay for a stream but not for Fox where they would pay x amount for most shit they wouldn't watch so Fox isnt an option. Supercars has got the Superview for overseas viewers, if they opened it up here to domestic viewers I think they would do quite well.

Speaking of attendance at SMP Supercars v WTAC, I was at Supercars in August and the difference in crowd sizes was massive.

Yep! Noticed that on Saturday too. Sad day when a glorified super sprint round gets more people out than the premiere motorsport series in Australia. Have to say at WTAC there is just so much stuff to see off track!

Interestingly next year at EC next year Supercars will be a night race, that could make things a bit more interesting. Who knows. But the Fox deal is killing it. The only race I've watched this year was Bathurst and a bit of Sandown

Which honestly is probably a good thing lol. WTAC can be a bit boring on track at times waiting for someone to go out.

Was also very interesting how many cars were coming in at 6pm just for the drift sessions.

Might be able to pay for a decent engineer again
