OK Wet Weather update update update.

      Cut the old mounts off.

Glued them back on where I thought they should go.
Then cut the mounts off again cause they were in really bad spot.

Made new RHS blocks to support the Holden mount. Cursed the fact that the holden mount is an awkward piece of shit to work with, as it is meant of a hollow adaptor that you can bolt to from the inside.

So they ended up off centre and with awkward angles on the rhs. But they are plenty strong and in a good position. Engine fits beautifully, heaps of clearance, sump gets close on the pasenger side front corner but it has a good 1/2 inch and I can lock the mounts up a bit higher if i need more room.

      Forklift FTW btw :D

I made the mounts by fabbing up steel plates from 6mm black bar, then bolting them in place on the engine and the rubber mounts. Then I realised it is a shit of a thing to get to in the car so i welded a bi of angle to hold the brackets in their relative positons- then removed them from the car and fabbed the rhs up on the bench. Worked well, very happy with nearly everything I did. Next step is the gearbox mount which is easy, holden stock mount and adaptor plate should do it. it's so greasy under there I am gonna blast it before I do that.

Then hook up the heater hoses and we're done. :D

        Things I am struck by regarding Mr Toyota San;

All bolts and nuts are top shelf. They are a work of art. Seems nasty to replace stuff with locally made rough arse bolts.. Even the nuts on the turbo are beautiful- self locking high temp 8 points. I have not hurt one nut or bolt stripping bits and pieces off manifolds, exhaust syetms etc.

The block is beaut, so many holes to mount from. I made up the driver's side mount block and realised it would be better if it went forward to the next set of holes. Turns out the bolt spacing is the same in every plane.

The sump we got from jzz30 soarer is perfect for Holden's with a forward crossmember. Fits like a glove and no crossmember mods or sump mods needed.

Basically it is a well built chunk of metal, and I can't wait to get it sorted.

Nice looking mounts there. When you come down to Sydney to fix my roof for beer money, I will get you to mount the AU Falcon engine in the neighbours morris :D

                As in 'staunchions'? :D

Yeah I had 50mm rhs here so what the hell. Making them from flat plate would be better but they are plenty strong enough.

Can you see just how much time you wasted on holdens? Toyota overengineering FTW!

                      Nice work. Forklift envy

Flat plate is cool if you have a press brake. Nice welding too

If you don't mind can you tell us how much you think it will owe you? What has it cost so far?

Nah I'm gonna save the fuel that was already in it; like I'll run it through a rag before I put it back in of course.
