fark I can't believe I missed this one, great work muz!

As others have said, the only prick with Toyotas are the stupid fuel pump control methods. Mind you I've never done an auto conversion so I'm not sure how much more of a prick that would be however 1J and 2J's are a piece of cake to wire up

I recall a couple of years ago doing my first 1J and couldn't figure out why the relay was a double coil single contact type, one coil goes to the ignition switch start position (so active 12v) and the other coil had 12v on it from an ignition source and was earthed within the ECU (so active gnd). At least Nissan can do things properly and only use one relay and only one ECU trigger to the relay!

I use two relays to do the job of the Toyota one which I didn't have access to for the conversions I've wired up. As someone already said, dont bodge the fuel pump by hardwiring it to a constant source of ignition power, not just in case the engineer picks it, but because its bloody dangerous in the event of an acco....

Nah things have stalled because I blew the diesel up from my waterblaster, and the weather has been shit, and I am busted arse broke.

Intercooler and plumbing was ordered three weeks ago. I rang him yesterday and he said "Oh yeah, we ran out of those coolers. Might be another two or three weeks I dunno."

Thanks for the non reply to my three emails and no contact regarding a product that you promise in 5 working days numbnuts..

Next to go is the gearbox crossmember and making up new body to chassis bushes. You can't buy the steel insert/washer thingos so I'll have to make them up. You have to buy 6 kits of nolathane bushes to renew all the bushes...

Probably won't get anything done for a couple of weeks because we have way too much to do out on the road atm.

But thanks for your best wishes and thoughts at this time. You're a nice group of cunts. :D

                  UPDATE:

Craig fibreglassed the splits in the dash in preparation for fibreglassing the whole thing.

                    Update:

Had to get it mobile to clear the shed out. It is always more work than it looks..

Diff is a Commodore v8 3.08 disc brake open centre. Made the plates to act as lowering blocks while I was at it. Saves getting springs remade. Hope the engineer likes my work :D It will twist the springs but I'm thinking it will need some trailing arms in addition to the springs. The diff is an inch narrower per side, stock commodore wheels get really close to the inner guards. Might need non standard wheels with a bit more dish, and no more back space than the stockers.. U bolts were hard to find up here, they sit a bit crooked as the leafs aren't centred properly and the welds need touching up here and there to let them get right in close.

Blasted, primed and painted the front suspension arms, spindles and bits and bobs. Had new bushes and ball joints pressed in. Got ripped. Anyways it is all mocked up and we bunged the kingswood rotors back on to move it. It will get the hoppers stoppers kit soon.

Gearbox crossmember worked out nicely. Didn't have to cut the factory x at all. Made a neat little adaptor and used a stock kingswood turbo trans mount, it's a fair bit lower than the trimatic one, and a shade narrower (not between holes, overall) . Box is really tight on the floor so may bend the x down a tad. It is bent up by about 20mm by the looks of things anyways. With the big pan on the auto you can't slip the x into position, so I made some rhs mounts off the side of the chassis for them to bolt to. Not really 100% happy, but when we take the body off again we can think about doing it differently. It'd be nice if the x couldn't fall out, ie sitting on a ledge.

Here it is as it sits now, we cut the front springs to make it easier to reassemble, they will be changed later. Looks OK I reckon.

A mate just called me yesterday and offered us his immaculate ute body, already painted, full gts dash and wheel, retrimmed seats for $500. Looks like the way to go. I'm not likely to find that much time to do the bodywork on this one.

                        What he said.

That looks like it fits much better than the V8 Muz. I had to rape the gearbox crossmember to get the box to not sit inside the car on my mates UZ.

                          Yeah install looks great Muz.

Not sure why you don't want to use that body though, it looks in pretty good shape. Good amount of paint on it. :p

Seriously though the install looks pretty good, Xmember only just looks like a modification. The UZ Tonner was a lot more obvious.

Stick new body on it and feel the JZ goodness.

Muz, buy good body, put off to side & cover with sheets.
Leave the cruddy one on there, will add hugely to the shock value.
Looking good so far, got an eta on being drivable?

Craig is about ot lose his job so I'm guessing it will take a while

My mate used to have a phrase "It's the rare canadian model" after we saw what looked like a 202 in some canadian truck only it was 4.5 litres and huge. But it looked like a 202 on roids. QED this is a rare canadian model 202.

Just had a look at the other body- pretty good- half a dozen little pinholes, some bog here and there, but a really nice interior and straight as. Also it is a WB which is near 10 years newer than the body on it. We'll try and swap the bodies tomorrow if we can. Using their hoist FTW.

If you need a set of front springs, i can get you a good deal on a new pair of kings.
                                Cheers Glen
