1JZ into HJ Kingswood Ute. Project Car for sale.

Anyone looking at this thread for the first time as a for sale thread should go to the last page to see what it actually looks like. Cheers.

OK We are underway with the project.

Dennis 2JZR31 sold us the engine, which is an immaculate looking externally and internally 1JZ from a Soarer front cut.

Car is a rusty old ute I had sitting under my dad's house for about three years. A coat of primer would have helped.. Oh well :D

    Conversion is as follows;

    1JZ GTE
    Factory auto
    Factory ecu
    Front mount ebay spec intercooler
Commodore hub conversion with 2 spot calipers
    Early Commodore diff with discs

Should be pretty good as the figures I can find for weight work out at around 1200 to 1250 for the ute. I think this engine is a bit heavier than the stocker. Surprisingly it is about the same length overall with the gearbox ending up in what looks like almost the right spot for the factory crossmember to be used.

Engine sits in there ok. Bonnet will fit fine, miles of room around the sides of the engine, exhaust fits fine. Heaps of room at the front to retain the stock clutch fan and a big radiator.

The only thing that seems really tight is the wiper motor being really close to the rear turbo's outlet pipe. That pipe can either be changed or maybe relocate the wiper motor.. Anyways that is a pretty minor deal one way or the other I guess.

    Happy days.

Trying to find a wiring diagram is a bit of a pain. The jzz30 diagrams all seem to have four plugs that are two rows high into the ecu, and this one has four pins high and four plugs. Dennis said he has a pinout for it anyways, so hopefully that is right for this box. The other thing I probably need is the fuse box, from the drawings I have that has fuel pump and efi relays on it, plus fuses and possibly fusible links for everything. Anyone have any ideas on that?

OK, I'll get some pics and post them shortly.

20psi and a heavy right foot will negate the need for wipers

OK pics. Body work is last on the listy. The chassis is perfect and rust free though.

Last one is the ecu plugs.. hmm.

my brother is pulling down an EH at the moment, pretty straight foward and easy to work on.

look foward to seeing it done

                  Nice one

Hey once all those plugs are plugged in the ECU, is there any spare plug sockets on the ECU for some more plugs that you haven't got? I had one big plug that come from the engine loom and plugged straight in the ECU (I didn't have you touch any of that wiring), and then there was another plug that went from the ECU to the body loom. There were a few pinouts on that plug I needed to use to get it running. Well it fired up with like only 4 wires connected . Then to get
to work better I hooked up things like the PWR and OD buttons, kick down switches etc.

The auto wont work right unless you wire up the selector switch to the ECU. All mine needed was the correct wiring from the selector switch to the pins for gear section 1st, 2nd and reverse.

See its not that hard, but it did take me fucking ages to figure it all out. This is for an Aristo, which seems a fair bit different to what you have.

The pinouts I have probably wont be right for you. You will then need the pinouts for the other plugs (which my brother was nice enough to chop off for you, because he ripped the engine out before I got there ) Not to worry though, because I chopped mine off on purpose, but granted that was AFTER I knew what wires I needed. You still have the plugs though, so it shouldn't be hard to figure out anyway by matching up the colors. Most of these will do nothing like trac control, cruise control etc. But some may feed power to the ECU and some will be the selector switch wires and kick down and PWR, OD etc.

I don't think so. The bag that had the cannister and p/s reservoir had some plugs in it that look like the jzz30 ecu plugs I have found online.

What model is the front cut? Holy shit it is hard to find a full wiring diagram. Seriously, there are fifty different looms online. The jzz30 ones have two rows of pins and four plugs. Our ecu has four plugs with 4 rows of pins. I haven't seen one diagram online that matches.

I'm not really up to wiring of course, but I wanna make sure I can chase any other bits that I need so we don't get held up at the end.

                    Thanks Dennis and all.

I just edited my last post with more info.

I did not need any wiring diagrams. All I used was pinouts. And I just traced out the few wires for the selector switch.

For some reason there is no year model on the halfcut. My Aristo did not have a plate either, what is the go with this???

I would just keep looking for a pinout sheet that corresponds to the plugs you have. Once you have the correct pinouts it will be easy.

The internet was pretty much the only source of info I had to complete my conversion. It can take ages to get good info but if you are patient you can avoid paying anyone to work on your car like I did PF will come to the rescue!
