So what's the largest engine capacity "allowed" ?

There's a 3.9L version of the Jag V8, was built in the US and used in the Lincoln LS, they are worth pretty much fuck all over there, and there's a ZF 6-speed manual that bolts up to it.

Technically, 3960cc. But as Aaron said, while technically you can run an engine that big in one, NSW rego may not allow it anyway.

              The 3.9L is 3934cc, 280hp / 388Nm, should do 300hp with a decent exhaust and tune

              There's also the 3.5L, 3555cc, 262hp & 344Nm, wouldn't be too hard to get 280hp out of it.

But these motors are pretty wide, NFI if they would fit in a Miata...

Would a 3.2 or 3.5 litre jag V8 be easier to register? No idea as to the cost of these but Jack may be able to advise. Also whether it's easy to upgrade to 4 or 4.2 litre with crank, rods and pistons and whether supercharger could be bolted on.

If you could be sure of being within weight to capacity tables and an engineer was happy I can't see it being impossible to do under NCOP. You will need to meet emissions tests for the age of the engine and obviously have a good enough structure in place.

The Rocketeer v6 uses the Jag version 3.0L Duratec AJ30. I'm pretty sure these were the modular foundation for the small v8s in the Jag/Aston family of the time. They were all part of the Ford premium brands modular engine family. So you may be able to hybrid the rocketeer bits but with a v8..

There is a searchable list of car weights that NSW have on file, need to chuck to post the link from his bookmarks.

You can use the heaviest weight listed, unsure if that is the weight thru the model or year specific. IE the NA mazda was from 89-97, there is a possibility that the last models weighed more than the early ones.

                            1UZ into NA8 MX5, legal?

So 3928cc then, Lincoln 3.9L is out

                            Edit

But to be honest I think you would struggle to fit a quad cam V8 into a Miata without major surgery.

The Jag V6 (Mondeo Duratec 30) is considerably narrower than the V8.

There two models of MX5 sold, if you have one bought/sold new from Mazda as a Hardtop you get to use that combined weight too. (Supposedly)

But because the RMS interprets the guidelines on the fly you have no assurance that they’ll use any weight other than the minimum.

And there’s no requirement for them to accept the guideline either if they don’t wish to.

AJ30 (v6) is 60degree v, the AJ v8s are 90degree and huge in the heads
