Now that'd be a bit of a weapon! I imagine one of those would still cost some serious $ though.

What about a honda S2000 motor and box, seen it done to a sprinter in the states they are a good motor with plenty of jap support and produce big numbers when force fed too.

But I think keep it nissan with a Z20 block, big compression, big cam, ported z18 head with efi hardware and a good computer like an autronic I have been in a stanza rally car with this combo and it was very qhick and pretty easy to fit.

4AGZE from an AE86 or whatever it was, blown so no lag but still a smaller motor for weight etc.

in all honesty i think the SR20VE is your best option. only problem would be finding a RWD version, did they make them in RWD?
not many people are that keen on this engine, which i cant under stand.

what u need to look at is do you want to be really competative or are you doing this just for fun. if its for fun do the V6 conversion, cause it will cost you a packet and you probably wont have any money left over after the engine conversion for anything else eg tyres/suspesion/brakes.
if you want to be competative, do the SR conversion, give the car some stupid ass diff ration, say 4.7 even a 5, cause it is only a short tight track, so you need to be aiming for top gear by the end of the straight. this will also give you heaps of pulling power in the corners. a small capacity engine will really short diff gear will flog just about anything in a straight line to 60ks. with the money u have left over you can spend it on brakes and suspesion, cause 20yo sunny suspension is gonna suck.

try and save as much money as you can and spend it on the zed. the sunny just dont have the same appeal as the zed

Hey Mick. Yeah, there also that toss up between the sunny and the zed. To be honest, I don't think it'd be worthwhile for me to pour too much more money into this zed. I'll finish the new motor for it (mild L26) and fix the rear suspension geometry then it'll be a pretty decent all round package. Might even take it out to the track and race it.

While it may not make too much sense when you look at it on paper, there's something that just really appeals to me about the sunny. It's a really nice little car to drive, even with the A12. The zed should be the "fun" car of the two, but it's the sunny that I have more fun in, probably because I can drive it like a madman, go hit the dirt of whatever and don't have to worry. The zed I have to be nice to.

Anyhow, back to the engine swap. The SR20VE would be a damn good option. Using a FWD motor in a RWD shouldn't pose too many hassles. Bang for your buck, it'd be pretty hard to pass up.

Suspension will most definitely be needing some help! It's probably the softest, most rolly polly thing I have ever driven.

Mazda KLZE 200 hp mx6 import engine. 2.5 V6, alloy, Quad Cam. Front cut would be about 2G.

KL03 is the OZ version. Less Hp...

There are some links to a couple of weird conversions of this engine. 1 is in a VW Baja and the other is being built up as a 3.2 twin turbo HR holden.

                          This is the HR...

There is a Gemini van with a 1000hp twin turbo racing version of the KLZE in it, pics here http://www.austrackmotorsport.com.au/streetcars.html

The OZ spec KL has a lack of low down torque when in the heavy 626, may not be an issues for you, but I would not be saying that the low down torque would be it's strength.

Unless you have a desire to spend a lot of research money to get some unique, then I would go with a RWD 4cyl engine.

In a 900kg car it would be just fine.
