. Can't connect to Haltech ecu

Can't get my windows 10 laptop to connect to my elite 2000. All I get is "ecu not found". The laptop recognizes the ecu and makes a noise when I plug in but wont connect.
I've spent hours googling and trying different things like updating drivers, changing settings, re naming ports and my brain is fried. I tried my other laptop and same result.

Have you tried turning it off and then on again?

        Tried a different USB cable?

No I haven't, it's the one supplied with haltech, it's brand new. They have a square end on the ecu connection point. There a normal usb port beside it, maybe I should buy a cable and try using that port.

Itís likely to be a driver issue with the laptop.

Happy to remote in and take a peek.

There's something strange going on, not sure if it's a wiring issue. The Haltech keeps going into blue light mode which is software update according to the manual.
I've managed to connect to the ecu now but only if I unplug and re plug in the ecu power relay. It then goes to white light and I can connect fine. The relay is fine I've tested it.
If I turn the ignition off and on again it goes back to blue light and won't connect.
I've done all the software updates.
              I'll ring Haltech tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer btw. I'm thinking it could be a wiring issue

Sounds like the UART and or bootloader has spat it to me. They will be able to repair it but it sounds like it'll have to go back. I've had the same thing with a PS plugin which shares the same hardware for USB to serial comms within the ECU.

Found the problem. It was wiring.
Turns out in this old car when the ignition switch is in the off position it's grounded.
I assumed it would just be an open circuit.
I had most of my relays wired with constant power one side and the ECR wire to the other side allowing the ecu to trigger them on power up.
On one relay, the intercooler water pump, for some reason I wired the ECR wire to one side and the ignition switch to the other, so when the ignition switch was off it was grounded triggering all the relays on that circuit.
This was causing confusion for the ECU on power up causing it to not power up properly.
I re wired that relay and everything is working perfectly.
                    You live you learn.
