Got talked into building another turbo manifold for an old customer. First manifold i have done in over 12 months i would say. I did notice i felt a bit rusty when starting it but starting to feel comfortable again.
also quick dumb question, I kinda want a stick welder because of reasons, and have tried a few cheap inverter units which are total shit, and seem to remember old heavy box units were easier to use and produced better results.
Should I buy and old one or just buy an inverter from BOC/ebay instead of Bunnings?
Err, the inverter ones are far easier to get good results from. Are you using good clean/dry/new rods ? Is the surface clean ? Right current settings for material thickness and rod size ?

with the inverter? from memory I was using the cheapest rods one can buy which were probably wet, painted/dirty steel etc. main advantage to an inverter is that they are small and light, will have another go with one with clean steel and dry rods and see how that goes. probably just nostalgia, I kinda like the noise of the old ones, sounds like electrocution.

Ah yep. That was the second manifold I made for that car. First one had the gate off the collector and wouldn't control boost. Open it right up to have two pipes merging into the gate and milled down the point in the collector and the bloody thing still spiked. Made another manifold and ran gate off the housing and it never had a drama.
