OK, so right off the bat, not a beautiful weld lol... Not even pretty.
But in my defence it was 4mm thick socket welded to 0.6mm tubing with a 2mm gap to fill :D
#havewirewillfill
It's a temporary shower rail for the bathroom till we decide what happening permanent like... Possibly glass shower Warren but budget depending.

Amazing there aren't holes blown in the tube tbh. I struggle with thick vs thin. Had/tried to weld a handle back onto a stainless saucepan. .. yes darling, the holes are to help the steam escape...Mit freundlichen Grüße

Yeah I was a bit hard on myself to start with. Then a mate reminded me of the materials specs etc and I felt a bit better. Also it's been near 5 months since I held a torch #excusesexcuses lols

You doing the Swoopy e's thing?
Did a bunch of testing in my early tafe days with a cool teacher we had.
He was real tidy with the old whip weld. But he stuck to straight slug laying for the most part.
We did a whole bunch of tickets, to compare peno and strength. Peno on a properly set up straight slug was usually better. But it was fine either way if you knew what you were doing.
The cursive stuff tended to get the new guys to slow down a bit so improved peno a bit for the novice welder guys.
Just useless information :D

Yeah just cursive e's. Also go down a click on the voltage to get the ripples going. I normally weld hot just because I'm a hack and i want stuff to stick together.
I did like the slow going of it, so thats a plus.

The yanks seem really big on it. The tafe guys here seem to hate it.. We have a cat contract locally. They have been trying for years to bring in their own training plan and qualification. It included changing the weld test and training to include the cursive.
Was a huge shitfight apparently. The tafe guys in the end said you can ask your workers to do what's ever you want, but be fucked if I'm teaching people to flap around because you like the look of it.. He asked then to prove their claim the peno eds better and they couldn't. #shrugs. He was old school. Not only was he pissed at a weld taking twice as long (time is money, we arnt being paid to make things pretty) but also from a metal point of view.
The longer it takes you to weld something, the more heat you put into it. Hot and fast is generally considered nicer to the metal as it puts less total btu into the metal. Obviously many many caveats to this...
But yeah sorry just randomly off-topic lol :D
Consistency Looks good man. :D

We use flux core and the squiggly stuff is a big no no for that. Interviewed a bunch of blokes a few months back and one guy pushed the pool. When I said that's an interesting technique he was like oh ah yeah nah I have passed X-ray doing that before. I was like yeah righto.
Personally I don't like the stop start look and would prefer a nice smooth bead. I think a smooth bead is harder to hide defects and faults. It's also harder to get nice and consistent.

Yeah I never got to play with the flux cote at tafe before I got sick but had heard that.... Totally forgot lol... :D
I can understand people from a internet wanna look like you kinda deal, and to be honest some of the guys with mig skills are pretty mad clean. But they are very very few and far between.
To be honest I'm just happy people arnt stop starting. The constant row of cats bums staring at you.... It's like a fucking nightmare...
