So yesterday printed the top portion of a caliper in our 4 piston range. This piece will go to the spring maker so we can get our pad spring sorted. Here are some pics. Came out rather well. Now Printing is the two halves of our Historic caliper that we are aiming to have FIA Homologated.

That's not bad. maybe a bit of hand sanding first would bring it closer to full gloss. I'm going to experiment with some PVC pipe primer for PLA over the weekend. I'll post the resultshaven't watched the vid yet - here is my attempt
you can see the smoothest parts are where it dripped on the print.. but there is a nice gloss to the rest of it.“Buy the ticket, take the ride.’”

I've had reasonable success by rubbing the parts with cloth dipped in acetone. Have to be very careful of course.Originally posted by Benonymous View PostThat's not bad. maybe a bit of hand sanding first would bring it closer to full gloss. Did not make it into the office yesterday so when I came in this morning I had this waiting for me….outer half of our Historic caliper. Came out great. I think I have this printer pretty much sussed out. This part part came out perfect.
NOTE: I did not spend time cleaning the piston bores and pad areas

Yeah I know. I hate gluing things together unless absolutely necessary.Originally posted by GSRman View Postif you sliced that in the right spot - you could print it without supports and glue it.

No pics to show for my PLA smoothing experiment. Maybe I'm using the wrong shit but the PVC pipe primer did not smooth the PLA. After about 3-4 hours, the PLA was soft but not melty enough to make the surface gloss up. The vid I saw said use PVC pipe cleaner rather than primer. Is that just the 'Murican name for it or are there two different products??“Buy the ticket, take the ride.’”

I just had a look at the Home Depot site and even from the same company, they have different cans for PVC Primer and PVC/ABS Cleaner.Originally posted by Benonymous View PostNo pics to show for my PLA smoothing experiment.
