That is awesome. Really sad to see so many tafe resources being lost, hopefully it is maintained.

The whole picture for TAFE is pretty grim at present. The System of only being able to train material that has been created by industry skills associations and sanctioned by the quality trining board ASQA has meant most TAFE colleges are pretty much teaching shit from last century. We had various meetings with the Manufacturing Skills Association and they've just basically failed to even begin writing a skill for 3D printing or Additive Manufacturing. Meanwhile, the Singapore govt has tipped half a billion into promoting 3D printing and AM. Thanks to slow moving bureaucratic systems we have here (all controlled by Unions in the case of skills councils) we are quickly becoming a technological backwater when the whole world (including the Poms!) is streaking ahead with 3D and AM.

My belief is that the present govco would like all the training in Aus to be sold off to the Yanks, who will then charge top dollar for the worst kind of training available (online shit with fuckall hands-on) watch some videos, fill out an online form/test/exam (or get some cunt in Mumbai to fill it in for you) and hey fucken presto, you are a tradie!

This makes me SO FUCKING ANGRY. Tafe is one of those things we absolutely need if we are to get the next generation to be useful in anything other than professional roles, or labouring / making up the numbers in a call centre. Absolutely essential to growing our economy and developing our human capital. Everyone in politics pays lip service to this need, but nobody ever seems to do anything that actually has a useful outcome. Apart from ripping money out of the system.

If Abbott succeeds in doing the University of Buttfuck Idaho, American owned online thing, I think there is a strong case to be made that he would deserve to spend the rest of eternity strapped to a machine that delivers a strong kick to the nuts approximately every 90 seconds. Selling out our country and our future.
          Cheers, Richard

I had a meeting with TAFE the week before last and 'praise the Lord of technology' the Vic TAFE has made a dedicated 3D printing skill available. This means we can get on with teaching 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Those sneaky Vic cunts must've written it about 3 years ago. That's how long it takes to get a new skill into the system

So flashforge finder would be the go for <$1000? Anything else to consider?

We saw someone offering 3d printed wedding invitations that we like, the cost is about the same as normal invitations which is not far off the cost of a 3d printer which we have kind of wanted for a while anyway.

edit: Also, is something like the creator pro (2 colours would be nice) for ~ 60% more $ than the finder worth it? It seems like its a significant step up?

I believe it is one of these - http://3dprintersuperstore.com.au/co...mer-3d-printer but only 1 colour, so you are paying $50 less but only have 1 colour.

A printed wheel & flexible tyre. Not perfect - early days - but still a bit impressive.

One of the reasons I'm tempted by a TAZ is the dualstruder flex + normal action.

                          The acetone smoothing looks good.

I had to get a smooth finish on some badges for a display car the other day I tried to sand them smooth but kept hitting small voids. I ended up dropping them off at a chrome plater and they came out looking almost perfect, maybe next time I will try the acetone smoothing prior to chroming to fill the voids in the surface.

Ultrasonc transducer is the only method i'd use again (easy to say when i've already built the box) but it's output was about the only one i'd consider acceptable.

related though - if your software allows, thicken up the top of the item to allow for droop

Some blokes in the US have made a 3D model of the Spitfire and Mustang, and you can buy them for about $20 then print them out in PLA.
                              Looks pretty good.

I like those ^^^ Exceedingly good 3D printing design with the triangulated ribs. These are obviously printed from the root up, so the print would be inherently weak without the internal ribs.
