Are there any master power turbos that are essentially their own version of the t04 range (specifically t04b)? And if they do have their own t-04b look/performalikes, are these compressor housing/backing plate/and comp wheel able to be fitted to 'real' t-04 turbos?

Reason I'm asking all of this crap - rx7 turbos can be upgraded with t04 comp sides. I'm just putting out feelers (I was on the verge of doing this a little while ago, have only recently gotten back into it). I'm wondering if it might be cheaper for me to source a master power comp side to have that grafted onto existing rx7 turbos or if it 'real' second hand comp sides would be cheaper to source I know the rx s4/5 turbos aren't perfect but they do spool pretty much as I require (with enough flow, with a well prepped wastegate/port) and I have more of them than you can point a stick at...

    so - short version:

    1. do they have t-04b equivalents?

    and if so

    2. is it possible to buy the compressor housing, backing plate and wheel separately?

    and if so

    3. how much would it cost?

I'm specifically looking for something that is the equivalent of a '60' trim t04b wheel - and 0.60 a/r compressor housing
I should be able to get a few maps off Master Power this week. At the very least I believe their new racing series maps are done and available.

I'll have a proper look at it for you tomorrow when I get into work and I'll send you a PM.

I should have the maps they've done sent to me via email this week.

What particular info are you chasing? I've got the wheel sizes etc of the ones I've got into stock on my website - http://expressparts.com.au/master_power.asp

Oh yeh, missed the 'details' link. Looks like they are bush bearing oil cooled, any equivalent to the GT35R? How does the internal gate size compare with Garrett's?

Yeh that's correct. The new race series will be a bit different.

The MP37 / S60 (600hp version) are both similar to the GT35. They've both got P trim rears which means they have a bigger rear wheel to the GT35.

The GT35 rear wheel inducer size is 68mm compared to the MP37 / S60 (600hp) has a 64.5mm exducer and 74mm inducer. I've got the exducer size of the GT35 at work which I can post tomorrow.

The T60 Q trim is the next step up again. That rear wheel size is 67mm exducer and 74mm inducer. Out of the 3 turbos this is actually the most popular one that I sell.

I've got a few internal gated turbos coming into stock but they're not GT35 size. They're GT25 / GT28 sort of size. These will be the first internal gated turbos that I've brought in.

I'm most interested in the wheel sizing & trims... I've come to see Garrett specs as "normal" or "correct" but that doesn't mean the MP stuff is wrong, just different. More than one way to skin a cat I guess!

If I could be arsed I'd make up a table to compare MP & Garrett wheels, trims, housings, etc for the the main models.

For the record, I'm going to be supporting 'the little guy' (who is actually a foot taller than me) and will try one of these MP jobbies on the CA18.

Turbo change is an engine out job on my car, ball bearing turbos are a better proposition for a circuit car just from a durability point of view. If you spin or otherwise stall the engine from high revs the sudden loss of oil pressure can stuff a bush bearing.

as far as i know, ball races are less hardy than conventional bearings - perhaps not in the situation you've mentioned though?

also in the situatuion you've mentioned, surely residual oil would be plenty to let it spin down without damage.

i havent heard of turbo failure from a hot shut down for a long time.. i think with the higher quality oils these days those problems are almost gone...

i know the boat has had a couple of 5000rpm shut downs and the turbos are still perfect!

with a flange adapter would a t53/56 fit onto the stock sr20 (s14a) manifold?or are they hi mount/custom manifold only?

edit, and yeah also interested in a cheap gt28rs style turbo.

I've got some of a similar size to this arriving in 4-6 weeks. They'll be internal gated as well. They're coming with a 0.63 A/R.

JMAC - Sorry I ran out of time today to get back to you. I'll send you a PM in the morning.

260DET - The thrust bearings are more reliable than the ball bearing units. This is why MP have opted to design the new low inertial bearing system. Its designed to have a lot quicker spool up with still the same reliability of a journal bearing system.

If you do stall it at high revs you're not going to instantly lose all oil from the turbo. You're going to have enough in there to not harm it, it would be the same with a BB system.

I haven't had a high rpm engine cut off but I've had the whole setup really hot numerous times. We've had it on the dyno doing back to back to back pulls to test everything out from manifold, turbo and wastegate. We got everything hot enough that the turbo housing, manifold and gate all went very bright red.

I think that it will be a struggle to fit it in. The engine mount will most likely be in the way for the comp cover.

I can do a Quick Spool manifold and T53 or T58 turbo for $1,799.

I'll let you know once the GT28RS arrive in stock.

Bush turbo bearings rely on oil pressure to prevent metal to metal contact, just like crankshaft bearings do. On the other hand a ball bearing just requires the presence of a lubricant, no pressure needed. It may well be that in practice a bush bearing turbo will survive several high speed shutdowns but I'm not about to find out for myself

What exactly is this low inertial bearing system Tobs, what sort of bearings and materials?
