It's in perfect condition with a nice ceramic coated exhaust housing if you want to buy it on the cheap, it just doesn't work like a Garrett would of.

Weird, I use GTX2863 on 86 turbo kits and they work fine. Make 220kw atw on e85 at 10psi.
If you said you swapped the mamba for a Garrett and it worked better there would be something to suggest an issue.

A filthy old shitbox CA18 probably has a very small window of turbos that actually work.

I bought a gtx3076 for a 1jz and it was great, 280rwkw on 16psi; Foamy bought a gtx2863 for a ca18 and it was rubbish, made absolutely no power, swapped it for a borgwarner EFR and it made bulk horsepower. He had it looked it, nothing wrong with it, just inefficient as fuck. Further to that, know of a few people who have tried various models on EJ20's and reported the same, junk.

They seem reliable but some of their in house combinations just don't work.

Internal gate? Spend more on turbo and less on gates?

    Or external gate v band.

I don't have to have the top of the line-but I am sure there are better turbos than the T-series stuff I had before.

Right now, I'm looking into the 46mm BorgWarner S246SX, the only inconvenience is the turbine housing's T4 flange/T3 inlet.

    $600USD each is plenty.

I'm hoping to spend 600$ each or under-but it's one of those things. I'm re-making motor mounts this weekend to adjust the tilt on the engine a bit, which will give more room on the turbo side of the bay and help with oil drainback. Once that is done, I'll be able to get more concrete dimensions for what will fit in there.

The old T3/T4 turbos were supercheap, but I knew they weren't the best junk available...just the cheapest. Things are a bit less budgety this time around.

your budget is pretty important here as there is a huge spread in cost.

Anything is better than the t3/t4 you had.
Mamba gtx3071 would be good on a budget.
G25s are great but near on 3k each aud.

I'm not sure of the size, but I think the new G25-550, or G25-660 would be pretty good for that target. Or the EFR 7163, but i think its a fair bit bigger.

They're pretty current "high tech" turbos at the moment in that power range.
